Job Summary

AECOM’s Environment Business Line is currently seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. The appropriately qualified candidate will join a multidisciplinary, collaborative multinational team focused on delivery of superior services to our clients. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical expertise in support of on-going AECOM geotechnical projects

  • Work with senior level staff to provide services for current and prospective clients, and actively participate in local and regional collaborative opportunities

  • Actively participate in business development activities by identifying opportunities, supporting proposal efforts, and developing winning strategies

  • Maintain positive working relationships with client contacts, suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants and external agencies

  • Conduct technical review and undertake modelling, analysis and design for geotechnical components related to highway and railway projects, utilities, building structures, energy and mining projects, and other civil infrastructure projects

  • Provide technical mentorship to various members of the geotechnical team

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field, a post-graduate degree would be an asset.

  • 5-10 years of geotechnical experience

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Alberta.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Excellent technical, project management, and communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Ability to manage time effectively.

  • Willing to work extended and irregular hours within Western Canada when necessary.

  • Willing to work in field and ability to travel to a variety of out of town project sites when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering

  • 10+ years of geotechnical experience in Western Canada

  • Proven track record in developing and sustaining client relationships in the Alberta market

  • Experience of modelling geotechnical problems using finite element/finite difference software (PLAXIS 2D/3D, FLAC 3D, etc).

  • Experience of modelling with other geotechnical software including but not limited to LPILE/ALLPILE/GROUP, GeoStudio (slope Stability, Seepage and Settlement Analyses), Settle3D (Settlement Analysis), WEAP (Wave Equation Analysis Program), gINT, etc.

  • Geohazard Assessment and Terrain Analysis.

  • Geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring

  • Trenchless design, modelling and construction

  • Analysis and design of retaining walls, deep excavations and excavation support systems, reinforced earth slopes, foundations, etc.

  • Fluency in written and spoken French is an asset
