Eaton Corporation Engineering Manager - Interconnect Product Line in Camarillo, California

Eaton’s Fluid Electrical Distribution division, a part of our Aerospace group, is currently seeking a Engineering Manager to join our team. The Engineering Manager will provide leadership to our Interconnected Product Line. This position is based at our Camarillo, CA office. Relocation assistance will be provided.

Position Overview:

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the Interconnect engineering team, ensuring that current and new Interconnect product designs are technically and economically competitive in present and future markets.

The responsibilities include leading a team of engineers in delivering new products, supporting troubleshooting of production issues relating to product performance, approving manufacturing deviation requests, continuous product improvements to improve the durability of the product, supply chain cost out initiatives, establishing technical roadmaps and competitive analysis support.

This role leads the engineering team which is composed of new product development, sustaining, and test engineering. The engineers develop components for internal research and development efforts, customer programs and brings them to market within needed timeframe.

The incumbent will monitor overall project engineering performance during all phases of a program, develops and implements corrective action and recovery plans as required, and periodically reports development program status to both the customer and senior management. They will support development and implementation of processes and tools for engineering tasks consistent with industry best practices, while assuring adherence to defined processes.

In this function you will:

  • Development of engineering teams organizational capability/capacity and engineering/technical skills to support the business and functional strategy; provides mentoring to less experienced design engineers, and leads efforts to define and update product development processes related to design engineering.

  • Leads creation of and subsequent adherence to technology roadmaps for the Interconnect product line, which support the product and business strategy

  • Development of improved engineering techniques that add value to our products through weight reduction, increased value proposition, lower cost, more efficient systems, components, reliability improvement, etc. Development of documented technical standards around best practices and using lessons learned

  • Provides input and direction to the project team regarding customer concerns and potential changes in scope

  • Continuous improvement of resource management approach, engineering productivity, and first-pass quality. Uses variety of tools including Design for Six Sigma to achieve these results

  • Manages the department budget and leads resource planning, including profit planning and demand/capacity allocation

  • Works in cross-disciplinary manner with other departments (e.g., Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement, Customer Support, Suppliers, etc.) and facilitates the PROLaunch and aerospace common engineering standards (ACES) processes; sits on site leadership team

  • Participates in customer program-related supplier design reviews, as required, to ensure the contractual and technical requirements of the program are being met.

  • Supports technical volume content for proposals. Responsible for supporting technical write-up, initial development plans, resource plans, risk assessment, etc. for proposal activities.

  • Stay abreast of industry technology trends and act as the organizational liaison to universities and industry organizations accordingly

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in new product development

  • Minimum of 3 years in a Leadership or Manager of People position

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering and/or business management

  • Experience with Aerospace systems or products

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Six Sigma for Design and Development (SSDD) or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) certification

  • Experience in conducting competitive analyses and defining/executing business level strategy.

  • Experience with design processes, portfolio and program management skills, knowledge of customer strategies, and successful new product introduction experience.

  • Experience with engineering processes/tools

  • Experience supporting product development and sustainment programs

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members
