The Manager, Business Development will have responsibility for and support the business development, operational, and corporate initiatives such as participating in strategy groups, executing performance analysis reports, monitoring competitor activity and industry news, designing and implementing business processes, as well as providing writing and editing support to client-facing corporate members. In addition, this role has direct accountability for managing the company’s response to corporate acquisitions and new service offerings from release to post submission; oversee all bid/proposal activities, including directing project team members, managing schedules and deadlines, developing bid/proposal outlines, tools, templates and compliance matrices; use both standard best practices and creative/tailored approaches to increase the win probability of profitable and sustainable deals through compliant bid/proposals.
Develop and assess potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending pursuit or dismissal.
Manage a project team with complex skills, abilities and functions; communicate clearly, effectively and efficiently; create innovative solutions and leads teams to develop compelling bid/proposals to potential customers.
Develop compelling and compliant bid/proposal response; assemble and develop formats or templates for submissions that reoccur with some frequency, assuring that all solicitation requirements are met, yet the format is flexible enough to meet the needs of any specific submission.
Ensure that proposal submissions are compliant with the applicable instructions; produce and perform rigorous quality assurance on both draft and final products; facilitate formal and informal proposal reviews and ensure bid/proposal submissions are delivered on time.
Conduct bid/proposal lessons learned and document and implement actions to continually improve overall process; provide on-going feedback about market viability, e.g. pricing, structure, competitive position, etc.
Support other business development, operational, and corporate initiatives such as participating in strategy groups, executing performance analysis reports, monitoring competitor activity and industry news, designing and implementing business processes, as well as providing writing and editing support to client-facing corporate members.
Ability to effectively manage business priorities across multiple stakeholders, including executive leadership and business development leads located remotely
Ability to interpret standard profit and loss financials
Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills
Proposal coordination skills including document formatting and print production
Expert level writing skills
Exceptional facilitation and organization skills
Self-motivated and schedule driven
Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Project Management.
Minimum 5-7 years utility experience in the engineering, finance, operations, or communications areas
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management and/or bid/proposal development
May be required to travel; < 20%
