Primary Role

The Senior Technologist - SAP Basis Administrator will be responsible for technical administration for the SAP solution landscape. This position will be a key member of American Water’s SAP Center of Excellence within the Technology and Innovation group. The SAP Basis Administrator will be responsible for completing system builds, upgrades and enhancements for the SAP environment. This position will also be the primary administrator for the SAP Solution Manager environment ensuring that Solution Manager is configured to operate effectively.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to maintain the Solution Manager technical settings in support of IT processes (e.g. ChaRM, OCC)

  • Should be skilled in the management of the monitoring infrastructure (agent versions, patches)

  • Should be able to implement monitoring views and configuration

  • Should be able to perform system build and upgrade activities across the SAP eco-system

  • Should be able to create and maintain documentation of administration procedures and the SAP technical architecture in accordance with SAP Center Of Excellence certification requirements

  • Should be able to drive landscape improvements and operational efficiency of the SAP environment through continuous innovation as well as the problem management process

  • Self-starter with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge

  • Should to work flexible hours as needed for critical project activities as well as participate in after hours on call rotation


  • Expert knowledge of SAP Basis administration

  • Strong understanding of SAP ALM and Operations methodologies in an environment using SAP Solution Manager with ChaRM and Operation Control Center

  • Proficient with application administration and troubleshooting in a Red Hat Linux and Windows environment

  • Knowledge of ITIL standards as well as SOX compliance requirements


  • BS /MS in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Engineering or MBA or with strong academic background.

  • 7+ years of experience supporting and administration of a wide variety of SAP applications and technology components such as SAP CRM, ECC, BW, SRM, GRC, SAP BusinessObjects , NetWeaver Portal, Process Orchestration, Gateway/Fiori, LVM, Web Dispatcher and HANA

  • 2+ years’ experience in supporting enterprise applications which includes SAP and Non SAP systems

  • Strong experience of leading projects e.g. Support pack / Enhancement pack etc.

  • Prior experience working within a certified SAP Center of Excellence is desired

  • Experience with S/4HANA is a plus
