American Water Sr. HR Systems Analyst in Camden, New Jersey

Primary Role

Responsible for the technical development and maintenance of the HRIS systems to ensure they meet Business Needs including understanding and applying new technological systems and vendor products to develop innovative system solutions that match business requirements. Acts as a subject matter expert to provide recommendations for system and process improvements to manage data, facilitate work flow in applications, improve efficiency, analyze data, troubleshoot and utilize technology to meet current and future needs. Manages day to day activates associated with implementation/enhancement and issue resolution of HR systems projects and issues. Supports the people analytics, reporting, process improvement, data management and SuccessFactors systems administration, implementation, maintenance and module support.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports configuration and enhancements of HRIS Platform.

  • Advice impacts of quarterly updates, and recommends opportunities for adopting best/leading practices. Resolves technical issues.

  • Manages HRIS Security to ensure all employees have proper access to employee, job and position data and can perform position specific transactions.

  • Supports HRIS SOX compliance

  • Partners closely with HR to ensure requirements for data standards and data privacy requirements are in place and followed.

  • Serves as a technical and functional super user for HRIS systems to ensure effective delivery of HR Applications

  • Evaluates and recommends systems, applications to best support HR initiatives, this may include new applications or modifications to current systems

  • Designs, performs and recommends appropriate analytical approaches and methodology to address key issues within the business.

  • Acts as advisor to Business Leaders and HR to ensure we are leveraging best practice deployment and maintenance of HRIS software

  • Provides support for all aspects of an implementation including design, configuration, software training, data integration processes, and testing.

  • Assists in documenting HR procedures and training colleagues

  • Responsible for software configuration, security and maintenance all modules/HR Business Processes

  • Supports configuration and enhancements of HRIS Platform.

  • Exemplary customer service skills; ability to analyze needs through soliciting, evaluating and acting upon customer feedback

  • Excellent judgment and ability to analyze possible courses of conduct and make logical decisions after considering all possibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, design, configure, implement & support HR data, processes and technology

  • Ability to interview business/functional users and technical staff and apply system and business process knowledge and acumen to isolate, understand and substantiate true business needs from end user requests.

  • Preferred involvement/experience with large scale implementations of Success Factors and/or Employee Central

  • Intermediate/Advanced MS Office Skills

  • Able to think and plan on a broad, strategic level and also be able to apply that to systems and processes at a micro level.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to absorb, synthesize and present complex information through various forms of easily understood communications to any level of business senior leadership.

  • Ability to facilitate and lead complex discussions in a mixed technical and business team environment.

  • Must be able to identify and suggest plans to integrate and enhance new and existing systems. Able to propose meaningful solution alternatives and recommendations across HRIS applications.

  • Strong knowledge of HRIS Implementation practices and process, PMO methodologies, and able to lead work through Agile methodology.

  • Strong knowledge of Data Management, HRIS Reporting, Systems Data Integrations and Integration software

  • Strong collaboration, prioritization, and team working skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment with in-person and virtual teams

  • Able to work independently and take initiative to find/develop solutions for business requirements.

  • Able to think and plan on a broad, strategic level and also be able to apply that to systems and processes at a micro level.

  • Must be self-directed and able to work effectively in a teaming environment with little direct supervision.

  • Capable of being entrusted with "confidential" information

  • Fast learner with attention to detail

  • Should be receptive to feedback and willing to provide input/feedback to others

  • Should be a self-starter with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge


  • B.S. in related program or equivalent work experience

  • Current SFX Certification including Foundations, Employee Central Administration

  • Experience administrating SuccessFactors, SAP, ADP or other HRIS system Knowledge of key human resources functions including recruiting, performance management, employee development, compensation, personnel administration, organization management, and succession planning.

  • Extensive knowledge of HR operations, HR systems, HR processes and the integration with technology

  • Experience on multiple large, complex projects that have enterprise-wide impact and require subject matter expertise of process improvement areas and process improvement tools.

  • Experience leading teams to facilitate process improvements involving HR business systems.

  • Experience in the elicitation and formal management of requirements for Data/Reporting projects
