Primary Role

The Senior Technology Expense Analyst leads the creation, completion and analysis of complex technology expense reporting and financial information to ensure the overall analysis supports the financial business objective of the Technology and Innovation function. Manages technology procurement activities, budget performance, T&I supporting responsibilities related to state operating partner rate case proceedings, and conducts audits as needed to identify any variances and problems that may arise, and recommending any corrective actions senior leadership when needed. Responsible for the expense analysis and operational and capital budgeting within the Technology & Innovation function and across the state operating companies. Monitors budget performance to identify problems that may arise, and recommend corrective actions to senior leadership when needed. Assists with developing 5 year T&I business plans for submission to Capital and Financial management teams across AW.

Key Accountabilities

Research, monitor and track expense compliance & reporting requirements ensuring complete and full understanding and adherence of filing deadlines and submission requirements; serves as key contact to Technology & Innovation and business partners regarding questions, verifications and follow-up.

Manage assigned T&I budgets to plan. Develop complex integrated expense analyses, projections, reports, cost allocations and presentations.

Manage and perform technology procurement functions, including the collection and execution of purchase orders, placement and tracking of purchase orders, coordination and reconciliation of invoices for processing, asset as built / in servicing, and technology asset management.

Identifies processes for improvement, documents existing processes, identifies and analyzes gaps between current processes and the desired state, designs new processes, develops process performance measures and plans the transition to a new process.

Perform complex and detailed expenditure forecasting, depreciation modeling, trend and cost determination analysis.

Serve as an internal financial expert to Technology & Innovation and business partners to explain and interpret the individual pieces of data and information required by required filings and/or reports.

Prepare financial updates, including relevant analyses versus prior periods and providing forecasts/budgets, examining associated risk/opportunities.

Key Accountabilities (cont.)

Manage T&I support in rate case, merger and acquisition activities with sophisticated expense analysis and modeling, due diligence, and coordination of activities with Technology & Innovation and business partners. Provides rate case testimony as needed.

Perform cost/benefit analysis for technology projects and departments, develop graphs, reports, dashboards, routine and ad hoc reports and present reports and project results to leadership.

Collaborates with state/division, and other business partners to develop and maintain expense-planning activities including (but not limited to) departmental budgets, staffing models, contract services, depreciation, and AFUDC.

Make recommendations to leadership regarding cost saving opportunities and improvement strategies.

Excellent knowledge of accounting concepts; fully understands regulatory accounting and understanding of analytical concepts for financial analysis as well as US GAAP accounting practices.

Excellent ability to utilize multiple methods of analysis, cost analysis, budgeting and forecasting to a standard that can be upheld upon peer review.

Strong SOX, Rates and Capital Compliance requirements knowledge, and the ability to perform activities related to SOX, Rates or Capital compliance.

Strong ability to identify the need for and develop new complex expense analysis requirements and models.

Demonstrated understanding of strategic planning.

Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) with particular expertise in Microsoft Excel.

Thorough knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Dynamics and Hyperion reporting systems.

Strong knowledge of Rates, Regulatory, and Regulatory Accounting Principles.

Good knowledge of ITSM and ITIL.

Strong knowledge of Digital Technologies and Applications, and the ability to translate into cost determinations.

Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies in a technical environment.

Good understanding of Intellectual Property Rights as related to Technology Assets.

Experience:

10+ years of financial planning & analysis / technology business management / financial management & decision support experience.

Experience with rate case testimony related to technology strategies and solutions.

Regulated Utility Experience preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, and/or relevant Technology area is required. MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.

Relevant Finance, Technology Business Management, Agile and/or ITIL certifications preferred.
