How will you make an impact?

The HR PMO Business Analyst provides day-to-day support across Thermo Fisher’s HR platforms (Talent/Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Culture and Counsel, HR Productivity & Operations) and regions by partnering with HR, HR Technology Services (HRTS) and other stakeholders to facilitate key system and process enhancements.

The Business Analyst collaborates with Thermo Fisher stakeholders (HR, IT and business customers) to understand and translate customer needs into recommended solutions. This role plays a critical part in helping HR meet strategic goals and implement targeted enhancements through excellent analytical and project management skills and ensuring successful implementation and sustained operation.

Additionally, the Business Analyst partners with the Talent platform and associated teams to manage enhancements through standardized PMO processes. This includes scoping, gathering of requirements, resourcing needs, and recording this information in project portfolio system (Jira). This role reports to the Director, HR PMO as part of the HR Productivity & Operations (P&O) platform.

What will you do?

  • Partner with P&O, HR Technology Services (HRTS), HR Shared Services, Payroll and other stakeholders to understand and prioritize HR system and process enhancement opportunities

  • Understand Workday and other HR systems functionality to offer recommendations for effective and efficient solutions

  • Develop clear functional requirements that communicate customer business needs in technical terms and based on understanding and translating the language of the business customer

  • Collaborate with IT/HRTS resources to create test plans, facilitate effective UAT and thoughtfully deploy systems changes, ensuring proper change management to ensure minimal disruption

  • Work as an HR process and functional expert on HR projects as required

  • Manage small and medium projects, creating project plans to ensure successful deployment, communicating to stakeholders and meeting deadlines.

  • Develop and conduct user experience sessions with various stakeholders (employees, managers, HR Partners, etc.) to identify opportunities for improvement and collect voice of customer

  • Support efforts associated with Workday’s bi-annual “update” cycle by reviewing new functionality and understanding stakeholder impact/interest

  • Actively participate in the Workday Community and regional user groups

  • Provide key thought partnership to influence and shape the direction of the PMO team and P&O platform to meet customer needs

  • Align with overall direction of the Thermo Fisher HR PMO, including deployment and support of any common frameworks, methodologies, and governance requirements. Foster an environment of continuous learning, sharing and improvement within the HR PMO.

  • Participate in platform stakeholder meetings and support personnel to ensure proper exchange of information regarding current and new work.

How will you get here?


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, IT or related field


  • 2-4 years Human Resources, HR consulting, HR Operations or IT related experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven track record of supporting systems and processes, preferably in a large, global complex organization

  • Experience with user acceptance testing

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a matrixed team of professionals across functions and business groups

  • Strong customer service skills

  • In-depth facilitation skills

  • Relationship management and influencing skills

  • Conflict resolution and problem solving skills

  • In-depth diagnosis, decisioning, and analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into requirements

  • Ability to manage change effectively, always mindful of technology and business implications

  • Project management skills preferred

  • Workday HCM or other HR systems experience preferred
