Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Life Sciences marketing professional to lead the Life Science Solutions Group global market & customer insights team. This position will work closely with global business, commercial and marketing teams to gather market and customer intelligence to leverage in new product launches, business strategy, brand strategy, marketing campaigns and campaign planning.

The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of Life Sciences marketing and business acumen, leadership and communication skills. In addition to technical proficiency with a range of primary research methodologies and secondary data analysis, this role must be able to clearly understand and articulate key business questions & determine the methodology best suited to meet those objectives. You will also demonstrate the ability to ensure optimal study design and execution.

This is a hands-on role and candidates must demonstrate the ability to operate and excel at the strategic as well as tactical levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the global market research and insight functions for Thermo Fisher Life Sciences Group and maintain its position as the thought leader for best practices in market & customer intelligence within Thermo Fisher.

  • Manage the planning, intake and execution of requests from a wide audience (marketing, product management, R&D, customer services etc.) for diverse types of quantitative and qualitative research and market and competitor insight studies.

  • Hire recruit and manage team members. Ensure that the team delivers cutting edge insights while maintaining the service level.

  • Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of primary qualitative and quantitative research initiatives to identify, inform and direct divisional and function specific market, product, brand, communications, channel and service strategies at a global level.

  • Monitor and analyze key market trends, competitor activities, macro-economic and industry dynamics.

  • Advise stakeholders on the best approach and methodologies for their market & customer insight needs

  • Guide, manage and develop members of the market & customer insights team.

  • Establish and maintain a market & customer insights road map grounded in insights needs through active participation in Strategy and Planning sessions; effectively prioritize assignments in line with business strategic priorities

  • Identify and investigate innovative approaches and data sources to answer challenging business questions and continually improve the value of Insights to the organization.

  • Lead and facilitate brainstorming, ideation, co-creation, value proposition, positioning, and/or customer journey mapping workshops as needed.

  • Identify opportunities to partner with the analytics and data science teams, leverage their expertise and capability to identify opportunities and drive action based on customer and analytic insights.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of different research methodologies and data analysis techniques.

  • Oversee the evaluation and selection of research partners, focusing on best-in-class methodologies while keeping an eye on cost effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree with specialization in a Life Sciences discipline, PhD/MBA Preferred

  • 7-10 years’ experience in market intelligence and research – with at least 5 years of experience associated with a marketing function in B2C/B2B life sciences, medical device or pharmaceutical companies.

  • 3+ years’ experience managing 2 or more direct reports

  • A good level of understanding on current and upcoming market and competitor dynamics in the Life Sciences space

  • Hands on experience in the design, execution and analysis of different Product and Go-to-Market research methodologies – including Brand research, Pricing research, Market Segmentation research, Concept testing and Product Optimization research

  • Hands-on experience in the moderation of IDIs, focus groups, ethnographic and usability studies.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze situations, apply independent judgment and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and creative solutions. Ability to gather and analyze data and to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective.

  • Ability to think strategically, but also have exceptional attention to detail in execution. Ability and willingness to be a hands-on leader.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, prioritization and project management skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, including listening, interpretive and persuasive skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and work independently to deliver timely and accurate information and analyses.

  • Knowledgeable in SPSS or other statistical software as well as use of different statistical market research methods.
