Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an entry level PMO Admin -IT Project Manager for our Carlsbad, California Life Sciences Solutions group. The primary goal of the position is support and serve as the primary owner and contact of several Project Management Office (PMO) tools and processes, with an emphasis on PPM tools and reporting, dashboards, and data management. This position will be responsible for identifying and developing solutions and processes to increase project management methodologies efficiencies, effectiveness and continuous improvements. This will include responsibility as project manager for the appropriate level of LSG projects and key initiatives. The candidate will provide various analysis, discovery, and presentations to communicate PMO KPI’s, trends, and performance metrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Track and report on data accuracy and completeness of projects and their status

  • Regularly update IT portfolio reports and analyze data

  • Administrator of project portfolio tools including but not limited to HP PPM, Sharp Cloud, Excel, and others

  • Assist PMO staff as needed to manage day to day support activities, this will include reviewing status updates, data entry, process adherence and validation

  • Assist in IT process improvements and document findings and recommendations

  • Help develop and maintain training materials

  • Assist in tracking and updating project financials

  • Provide PMO team with a suite of KPI's on project portfolio (dashboards)

  • Active member of the PMO, assisting with the PMF mechanisms within LSG IT PMO

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team

• Willingness to learn, be mentored, and continue to expand knowledge of portfolio / project management

• Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing processes and tools

• Exceptional focus to the details

• Working knowledge of MS Office suite, project management tools, HP PPM, Jira, Power BI

• Good understanding of financial concepts and accounting terms

• Aptitude for organizing, managing and distributing data/information

  • Ability to lead change and the organizational change management process

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related technology strongly preferred.

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in IT project management or related technologies.

  • Waterfall / Agile Project Management knowledge preferred – PMP certified a plus

  • Good understanding of financial concepts and accounting terms – previous experience a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • May be called upon for occasional overnight business travel to other Thermo Fisher Scientific operating sites – travel is estimated to be no more than 10%
