Verizon Network Engineer - Tier 2 Support in Cary, North Carolina
What you’ll be doing...
This position is part of the Advanced Technical Support team in the Government Enterprise Network Operations Center (GENOC) in Cary, NC. It involves providing network services support to Public Sector Customers. The primary role for this position is to offer break/fix support at a Tier II level. Daily operations include addressing network change requests; supporting network incidents (ex. Network outages/complex routing issues/QoS/service degradation and latency) and ensuring the health of Verizon’s customers’ managed service networks. The position will interface with customer and internal Verizon organizations. The GENOC operates in an ISO certified environment. The engineer supporting the NOC will be measured on their ability to perform according to processes and procedures, responding to service requests, performing problem analysis and executing change management.
What we’re looking for...
Hands-on experience with IP networks in a NOC environment with the following network equipment: Cisco or Juniper routers and LAN switches. Experience with customers during service requests, problem resolution and operation under service level agreements. Experience with network management and performance analysis tools. Understanding of networking protocols such as IPVPN, IP, MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and IPSec is mandatory. Solid understanding of IPv4 and familiarity with IPv6. Good technical writing skills is mandatory.
You'll need to have:
Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant work experience.
Minimum 3 years' experience in a network operations environment.
Proficient in networking protocols (IP, MPLS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF)
Familiarity with IPv4 (solid), IPv6, IPSec/IPVPN
Understanding of DNS, NTP Firewalls, ACLs
Experience with network management and tools
Knowledge of Juniper or Cisco routers
Ability to write basic scripts for task automation
One active technical certification either from Cisco or Juniper
Ability to work full time 8 hours per day with required on-call rotation as needed.
Ability to obtain a government issued security clearance
Even better if you have:
Good technical writing skills
Knowledge of ITIL and/or ISO 20000 operating environment
An active clearance is highly preferred
