Verizon Senior Technology Consultant - Supplier Risk in Cary, North Carolina

What you’ll be doing...

Individual will provide program management support for the Business Continuity program, with a specific focus to ensure high quality technical plans and tests are completed with internal departmental teams and key suppliers identified through our formal Supplier Risk Management program. Primary responsibilities are to:

  • Lead concurrent initiatives with internal technical teams and key suppliers to identify opportunities to improve existing or develop new technical disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

  • Lead concurrent technical risk assessments of existing Verizon and supplier technical systems, infrastructure, and related third-parties.

  • Lead projects to identify and recommend preventative measures to minimize the likelihood of a disruption to Verizon and critical supplier technical systems, and coordinate implementation of these measures with the appropriate teams.

  • Provide technical mentoring support for other team members, and work with internal technical teams and key suppliers to develop and conduct relevant and challenging tests of their technical disaster recovery plans.

  • Lead projects with internal Network and IT system owners and other Business Continuity program personnel on system planning and testing activity to enhance reliability, availability, and performance of functions, systems, and suppliers.

  • Support Business Continuity-related technical aspects of Supplier Risk Management program with a variety of activities, including the review of initial and detailed documentation, and following up on potential issues and concerns within Verizon and with the suppliers.

  • Understand Business Continuity planning program requirements through participation and engagement in plan development projects for hands on knowledge of expectations, strategies and tools.

  • Support the Business Continuity team with various program activities, including: business impact analysis updates, risk assessments, document management, contact list maintenance, Emergency Operation Center resources, notification systems, and business continuity planning software.

  • Support internal teams and suppliers during actual incident responses, for example researching threats, impacts and resources, to include deployment for on-site support, as appropriate.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

•Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.

•Four or more years of relevant work experience.

•Demonstrated understanding of high availability, geographically diverse, and cloud based computer systems.

•Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and independently perform system analysis, design reviews, and identify opportunities for improvement.

•Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.

•Previous experience with system testing processes, to identify and close gaps in technical design for hardware and software, including Disaster Recovery testing.

•Strong verbal and written communication skills.

•Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

•Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in an ever-changing environment, while maintaining attention to detail.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and G-Suite.

•Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of responsibility and with customers and suppliers.

•Willingness to travel and be on-call if necessary.

Even better if you have:

•Masters of Business Administration, or Master’s degree in a related field.

•Demonstrated experience designing, analyzing and implementing technologies to increase the reliability, availability and performance of large interconnected open systems, and cloud based computer platforms.

•Demonstrated experience with large-scale on-site and off-site data backup technologies and processes.

•Certified Business Continuity Professional.

•Technical certifications in relevant systems and fields.

•Working knowledge of the telecommunications industry and the ability to develop a clear understanding of the company’s key operational processes and resources.

•Experience working with geographically distributed teams in a highly dynamic environment.

•Experience in business continuity or emergency management profession.

•Previous background as an emergency responder or Incident Coordinator.
