The Capital Markets Center of Excellence in the Controllers Division of Enterprise Finance & Information Technology is seeking a motivated Financial Accounting Consultant with knowledge of financial institution accounting and reporting. The successful candidate will need to work well in a team and individually and have close attention to detail.

Responsibilities include accounting and reporting for Wells Fargo’s Available for Sale (AFS) and Held to Maturity (HTM) debt security portfolios, as well as reporting on a portion of the equity investment portfolio. Monthly and quarterly duties include numerous Regulatory, SEC and internal reports. Ongoing duties include process documentation, re-engineering spreadsheets to gain efficiencies, prepare information for compliance with SOX/COSO, and prepare information for auditors. Our group works closely to implement new accounting standards impacting the AFS and HTM Portfolios and related accounting subsystem. We are currently underway in a large project to implement a new standard that will require a number of accounting and reporting changes. The candidate will be involved in the implementation of these changes, including testing of system changes and/or adapting existing processes to accommodate new reporting requirements. Requires regular interaction with operations, finance business units and accounting policy personnel. Accordingly, strong interpersonal skills and communication skills are desired.

The individual must have a strong accounting and analytical background, and be an independent thinker. They must be able to fully understand the reporting requirements, determine the most accurate and efficient source of data and report the financial results in a timely manner. They must be able to problem solve and analytically review transactional and positional data in order to understand variances and identify potential issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of banking industry experience

  • Public accounting experience

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation

  • Intermediate Microsoft Word skills

  • Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting
