The Specialty Accounting Group (SAG) is made up of several key corporate staff functions, including Corporate Human Resources, Corporate Properties, Enterprise Information Technology, Enterprise Global Services, Enterprise Marketing, Government, International, Community Relations and Corporate Communications. The SAG Controller organization is responsible for executing activities to create and maintain an effective financial control environment. The Group Controller Team works with the business lines to manage the risk profile, produce accurate accounting and SEC/Reg Reporting and maintain adequate controls for the SAG enterprise-wide accounting functions, including equity, deferred compensation, incentives, pension, severance, benefits, payroll, leasing, and technology. This position plays a key role within the SAG International Group Controller Model focusing on process improvement and accounting support. This role with further strengthen Wells Fargo’s International control environment and facilitate best practices in both new and existing International locations.

This role will partner with all Wells Fargo Lines of Businesses to determine on-going framework for International Payroll, Compensation and Benefits. Role will recommend, consult on implementation and communicate best practices and procedures for financial controls and business processes. Role will analyze and develop long-term strategies to optimize LOB processes. Role will be subject matter expert on processes and provide guidance on control, risks and efficiencies.

The selected candidate must be located in Charlotte, NC. (Brigham building in Ballantyne Corporate Park)

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include:

•Manage day to day operational accounting team for International EMEA Payroll, Benefits and Compensation Accounting

•Manage team of up to five accountants in various locations including Charlotte and London

•Manage the performance of complex activities associated with maintenance of general ledger accounts, consultation on international payroll and benefits, and preparation of timely and accurate financial reporting

• Liaise with International Benefits to ensure proper accounting treatment and regulatory compliance, including compliance with FATCA and Regulation W

• Assist in preparation and coordination of information to ensure compliance with local Statutory Reporting requirements

• Document evaluation of annual SOC-1 reports for third party service providers

• Review account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial / regulatory reports

• Review payroll funding and third party vendor payments

• Develop and apply technical accounting knowledge in areas including payroll, employee benefits, deferred compensation, and expatriate tax accruals

• Lead the mapping of Global Payroll accounts on the general ledger

• Assist in evaluation and documentation of processes, including the related control environment

• Other tasks and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting; or a BS/BA or higher in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or Business and 4+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting

Desired Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting

  • Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization

  • An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation

  • Strong accounting skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Public accounting experience

  • Financial services experience

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Ability to be flexible and adjust plans quickly to meet changing business needs

  • Ability to present to decision makers in a professional and confident manner
