  • Wells Fargo Investment Institute (WFII)* is part of WIM and focused on developing and delivering the highest quality investment research and guidance to better enable our advisors and relationship managers to help WIM clients meet their financial goals. WFII guidance covers the spectrum from strategic asset allocation to the selection of individual money managers.

  • Global Manager Research (GMR)* is part of the WFII and charged with recommending and overseeing third party managers for Wells Fargo Advisors, The Private Bank, Institutional Retirement and Trust (IRT) and Abbot Downing. This position is responsible for initial and ongoing monitoring of both proprietary and third party alternative investment managers. This position partners with other team members in Wells Fargo Investment Institute (WFII) and Wells Fargo Investment Management focusing on hedge fund, private equity, real estate and other alternative investment managers, including liquid alternatives (i.e. 40 Act mutual funds). This organized team member executes sound due diligence and risk management for selection and oversight of all alternative investment products through the implementation of a disciplined due diligence process designed to improve the probability of a better investment outcome for clients of Wells Fargo.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Performing initial and ongoing due diligence on third-party investment products

  • Responsible for asset class research coverage, which includes maintaining a high-conviction list of products in the assigned asset classes

  • Delivering presentations related to the activities of GMR to internal team members as well as occasionally to field investment professionals and their clients

  • Supporting field investment professionals by responding to their inquiries about the recommendations and/or selection methodology used on products under coverage

  • Responsible for drafting communications to the field. Examples of communications include changes in money manager ratings, manager updates and topical white papers

  • Conducting on-site due diligence pursuant to GMR’s evaluation criteria

  • Performing risk analysis on third-party investment products using Wells Fargo’s RiskOptics® model

  • Reviewing drafts of communications to the field prepared by other analysts

  • Assisting in the management of key workflow initiatives

  • Responsible for overseeing the delivery of critical deliverables for the group

  • Assisting in the training of other analysts

  • May act as a team lead

Preferred locations are Charlotte NC, New York City NY, San Francisco CA or St. Louis MO.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of investment experience

  • 7+ years of advanced asset analysis experience

  • An active Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), or Advanced Finance Degree

Desired Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics

  • Experience building partnerships and consulting effectively with leadership

  • Ability to deliver dynamic presentations to business clients

  • Ability to motivate staff to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of investment research, portfolio analysis or quantitative finance

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Experience in money manager research
