Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

CRE Risk Management provides risk management support and oversight for the lines of business within Wholesale Commercial Real Estate (“WCRE”), including Legacy CRE (Real Estate Banking, Specialty Real Estate Finance, and REIT Finance), Community Lending & Investment, Structured Real Estate, and MultiFamily Capital. This position supports Wells Fargo Legacy CRE with shared projects and initiatives that span all WCRE lines of business.

This position will be a designated line of business risk officer and as such will be a point of contact for Legacy CRE on operational risk and regulatory compliance matters. The Legacy CRE risk officer will be responsible for customizing, implementing and monitoring risk based programs to identify, mitigate and control operational, compliance and financial crimes risk. You are expected to develop and maintain expertise regarding the businesses’ operational risks, corporate policies, and regulatory compliance requirements in addition to applicable local, state and federal regulations.

The chosen candidate must be proactive, capable of differentiating risk and prioritizing use of resources, and employ core consulting behaviors such as customer focus, collaboration, change leadership, and effectively interact with business line staff, management, and senior leadership. The position is responsible for informing, educating, and influencing change to mitigate risk, address regulatory requirements and policy standards and to maintain an overall view on the risk profile for Legacy CRE. This role will include guiding a successful risk management program including risk assessment of products, systems, processes, and the development of corrective action plans to manage change and mitigate risks.

The position will collaborate with risk management partner groups and peers across the enterprise. This position will also work closely with WCRE centralized risk teams to design, implement and monitor operational risk and regulatory compliance programs and to execute on strategic initiatives and policies.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to all applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements./

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both

  • 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: additional compliance, additional operational risk management, IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience; or a BS/BA degree or higher in business or a related field
