Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk.

The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Operational Risk Business Oversight team – Wholesale (Wholesale ORBO)

The Operational Risk Business Oversight team for Wholesale is responsible for the independent oversight of front line operational risk management effectiveness of all Wholesale businesses. The Wholesale ORBO team is expected to engage with business and risk resources within the front line to influence and challenge risk management activities and decisions. Operational risk is the risk resulting from inadequate or failed internal controls and processes, people and systems, or resulting from external events. Operational risk is inherent in all Wells Fargo products and services as it often arises in the presence of other risk types.

The Role

The Wholesale Control Executive team has major operational risk programs centralized under Risk Control teams (e.g., Business Continuity Program, External Fraud, Third Party, Data & Technology, etc.) and shared services (e.g., Business Process Modeling (BPM), Self Assurance Activities (SAA), Issues Management, Project Management, etc.) under Functional Control teams. The Operational Risk Consultant 5 will work with the Shared Services Leader to ensure the following:

  • Providing oversight of execution of the Risk Control and Functional Control teams’ activities from the perspective of staffing, capabilities, timelines, quality, thoroughness, etc. and identifying opportunities to strengthen Wholesale’s execution of those programs;

  • Delivering and aggregating business intelligence (e.g., data, reporting, analysis) to support ORBO execution, reporting and governance;

  • Serving as program experts (e.g., BPM, SAA, Issues Management, New Business Initiatives, etc.) within the Wholesale ORBO team and aggregating feedback from ORBO and front line to credibly challenge the enterprise program owners to strengthen program design and execution; and

  • Provide coordination across Wholesale ORBO:

o Develop calendar of ORBO required activities, routines and deliverables in alignment with the ORBO Capabilities teams and other IRM partner teams

o Create consistent templates to effectively and efficiently evidence credible challenge

o Perform quality assurance on Wholesale ORBO deliverables

o Identify risk management themes from Wholesale ORBO deliverables

o Calibrate across Wholesale ORBO on execution of routines

o Provide training to improve the quality of deliverables

o Support the development and delivery of Wholesale ORBO contributions to key business and risk governance routines

o Develop and sustain information sharing routines across the Wholesale ORBO team and peer teams to support effective oversight.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
