BMO Financial Group Data Governance, Senior Product Manager in Chicago, Illinois

Description:

BMO’s Data Governance team supports our business and technology partners to help create a culture where data is managed as a valuable corporate asset. Data Governance processes and tools aim to improve the quality of BMO data and reduce our overall data risk.

Under the guidance of the Data Governance Capability Lead, the Data Governance, Senior Product Manager between the Data Governance & Analytics (DG&A) teams, assigned LOBs / function(s) and technology partners in facilitating cross-functional planning, design and implementation of one or more data management process family(ies) and associated data governance. The role is also responsible for ongoing monitoring of process performance metrics against targets to ensure ongoing sustainment of practices within responsible area, and alignment to enterprise strategy.

  • Execute on assigned work streams / activities defined in the integrated data management and governance roadmap

  • For areas of responsibility, facilitate the design of end-to-end data management processes and data governance operating model with input from relevant data owners, data stewards, data custodians and data stakeholders (note that an area of responsibility may include the family of processes for one aspect of data management or a specific LOB / function)

  • Provide guidance on data governance operating model and policy requirements and how they may translate to business processes / practices

  • Manage the coordination and execution of activities required to implement defined data governance processes in alignment with the data governance operating model design

  • Work with appropriate partners/stakeholders to ensure correct configuration/setup of data management solutions and/or data governance procedures

  • Provide change management support for data governance processes and operating model implementation (e.g., leadership alignment, stakeholder assessment and management, communications, training etc.)

  • Actively contribute to documentation, maintenance and enhancement of data management processes and data governance operating model to support ongoing and timely onboarding, compliance, sustainment and improvement

  • Stay abreast of data issues that are significant in terms of impacting multiple groups across the organization and/or requiring cross functional assessment and input to remediation strategies

  • Facilitate cross functional development and implementation of enterprise-wide remediation strategies for escalated data issues, ensuring technical and business impacts are well understood for remediation decisions

  • Design and implement strategies to monitor the compliance with the data governance operating directive and ongoing effectiveness of data governance processes

  • Provide recommendations for improvement of data governance practices at the LOB / function level

  • Participate in data and analytics enablement initiatives (projects) to provide input on data processes needs or impacts for responsible areas

  • Participate in working groups to advise on recommendations for developing enterprise data governance capabilities , priorities and processes, leveraging the learnings and experience from LOB / function implementations

  • It is expected that this role will have people leadership accountabilities in managing design and implementation teams

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Management (MIS) is required

  • 5-10 years experience in data preparation and business analysis

  • Strong business domain knowledge

  • Strong communication and training skills

  • Expertise in data preparation, governance, management and quality frameworks

  • Strong business domain knowledge in specific LOBs / functions

  • Strong knowledge of database design, data modeling, metadata management is an asset

  • Experience using advanced analytics and data visualization software is preferred

  • Experience with operational controls and regulatory requirements specific to the data domain/LOB as required

  • A detail-oriented critical thinker with analytical skills
