AECOM’s Building + Places Business Line seeks a Senior Design Architect to join the Architecture Practice and contribute to a rich design culture, demonstrating a rigorous process of achieving design excellence. The preferred candidate will be visionary and dynamic, with a portfolio of completed terminal design projects and a history of award-winning work. This individual will have the primary responsibility of partnering with design, engineering, management and construction professionals both internally and externally on exciting new work as well as supporting the firm’s focus on innovative solutions and design excellence for local, regional and global aviation clients. This role can be seated anywhere in North America.

In aviation, our team has renovated several terminals at Boston’s Logan International Airport including the recent Terminal E and C interiors; FAA Control Towers at Chicago O’Hare North Terminal and Dayton International Airport; the American Airlines Terminal at JFK; the New Face of LAX Central Terminal Upgrades; and numerous support facilities for cargo, rental car, baggage handling at various airports across the US and globe.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Leads development of architectural concepts and solutions from pursuit phase through project execution
Works directly with clients and teams as a leader with excellent communication and team building skills.
Participates directly in strategy and development of design pursuits, as well significant roles participating in interviews
Lead and develop design for large aviation projects with multi-disciplinary teams of architects, engineers and consultants for public and private clients
Oversee the work of less experienced architects and designers and be responsible for determining technical objectives of project assignments in conjunction with project management and design principles
Develop technical solutions to complex technical problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
Work with architectural design and production teams to schedule, implement and coordinate preparation of design and construction documents to office and client standards
Coordinate architectural design with engineering disciplines both in-house and with consultants
Participate/lead client presentation and progress meetings to communicate the design intent and review technical details of projects
Prepare and coordinate architectural details with other architectural team members for consistency with project design intent and office/client standards
Provide regular updates with project managers and department manager for schedule and budget compliance for architectural services
Bachelor's degree in Architecture
15+ years of relevant professional experience
Willingness to travel
Experience with graphic design in 3D
Excellent problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to engage strategically in business development phases (proposals, client presentations) as well as design phases and project execution
Project production experience, including standards and regulations
Proficiency in Microsoft office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
BIM, 3D Visualization such as SketchUp, Rhino and Lumion – skills preferred
NCARB and LEED AP – preferred
Masters Degree – preferred
