BMO Financial Group Manager, Business Intelligence and Reporting in Chicago, Illinois



The Manager, Business Intelligence is accountable to create and manage a dynamic, multi-level reporting framework in support of the P&C US Commercial Bank.This role will utilize extensive and specialized data which will inform both strategic and tactical decisions and ensure the overall P&C US Commercial sales, portfolio and risk management operations are efficiently managed and monitored.

The Manager, Business Intelligence and Reporting willamalgamate information, develop and maintain standard and ad hoc reports, analyze and identify key trends for the Commercial Bank Leadership team. Strong communication skills are also required to work with key business leaders to discuss key trends, identify and track priorities and monitor business performance.

The Manager is responsible for the acquisition, integrity and control of all requisite data ensuring accurate, high quality and timely delivery of information required to the business. The role requires strong communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with both internal and external data providers, ensuring quality control, timely delivery, and integration into dashboards. This role will identify conflictingdata issues and troubleshoot or propose resolutions.As new data and reporting requirements emerge, the Manager will research potential sources of data applicable to the business, recommend appropriate solutions and build a comprehensive end state.

This role is also accountable for the development and distribution of key performance management tools such as dashboards and will collaborate with members of key P&C Commercial groups to ensure thatdata is provided as required on a timely basis.

A. Data Management

  • Act as the subject matter expert on the development and management of P&C Commercial data and provide guidance to respond to the evolving needs of the business.

  • Work with the Senior Manager and Director, Business Intelligence to determine the strategic direction and goals of the reporting infrastructure and provide recommendations on long term requirements

  • Develop business and system specifications relating to performance monitoring,dashboard feeds and other MIS initiatives

  • Recommend and develop dashboards using enterprise data to implement user friendly delivery of key data to LOB stakeholders

  • Oversee all major data production problems through to resolution.Identify and recommend appropriate safe guards to prevent reoccurrence of issues.

Review progress to plans, and develop, communicate, delegate and actively participate in the implementation of actions necessary to correct internal and external issues.Escalate significant issues to the Director Business Intelligence.

B. Performance Management

  • Develop and maintain an effective infrastructure required to supply relevant & timely MIS in line with business requirements

  • Maintain effective relationship with internal partners, external suppliers and lending analytics teams

  • Accountable for the production of regular monthly reports including: monthly performance highlights, sales and portfolio management KPIs and management trend reporting.

  • Participate in the development of new performance measures. Responsible for providing analysis on key performance measures and drivers to Leadership Team. Lead and champion the ongoing refinement of performance measurement metrics and techniques to continuously improve measurement of the business

  • In collaboration with members of key P&C Commercial groups, ensure that key reporting and dashboards are provided in a timely and accurate basis, including:

  • Developing and capturing the necessary data to facilitate dashboards (Management Reporting Trends, RM and TPS Sales Performance, Pricing, and others as they arise

  • Support compensation programs by providing the necessary KPI data

These tools are central to ensuring effective portfolio management and driving effective and profitable sales

Act as a Subject Matter Expert and Point of Contact for all of thereporting and dashboards produced

C. Analytics

  • Complete ad hoc analyses for senior and executive management.Provide analytic and performance based content in preparation of presentation materials for Internal and External parties including Board packages

  • Conduct all regular and ad hoc sales/business analysis to support all creditor products and channels

  • Review and resolve data issues, utilizing appropriate analytical approaches

  • Conduct analytics for new products and processes, understand key implications from the output and develop recommendations to inform business decisions


Knowledge and Skills


  • University degree in math, engineering, finance or business related field

  • 7 years of experience in a related role within the financial services industry with a focus on data management and analytics

  • Strong knowledge of database programs (SQL, Access)

  • Good knowledge of data governance and metric standardization methodologies

  • Skilled in MIS reporting tools and data manipulation (Spotfire, Cognos, and Business Objects preferred)

  • Familiar with Project Management methodologies

  • Solid knowledge of planning, coordinating, multi-tasking, and analysis

  • Strong interpersonaland management skills

  • Proven ability to create, manipulate and extract information from large data sets

  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills

  • Strong analytical, time management and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently multi-task

  • Good prioritization skills and ability to determine when and how to escalate issues

  • Ability to work under pressure and tight timeframes

  • Ability to work well in a team environment
