IBM OpenShift/Containers Cloud Developer in Chicago, Illinois

Your Role and Responsibilities

We have a job opening in the Power Cloud Development Squad. We develop, test and support cloud offerings for IBM Power Systems, including IBM Private Cloud (ICP), Red Hat OpenStack, Red Hat OpenShift and more. We are looking for a motivated engineer who can work as a cloud developer in the OpenShift Cloud development team, possibly on-site at Red Hat in Westford MA. When you join our team, you will develop using the latest technologies and contribute to the success of IBM Cloud Products on Power Systems. In this role you and your fellow squad members will be turning a community project, OpenShift into a supported Red Hat offering which runs on Power hardware. This involves analysis of the community code base, adapting it for power, and ensuring the offering meets IBM and Red Hat quality standards.

As a Private Cloud Developer, you'll often engage in the open source communities that feed Openshift, including but not limited to origin, kubernetes, podman, istio, Fedora CoreOS. Make Power specific changes in upstream code repositories. Monitor these code streams to ensure healthy participation and representation of Power. Be a champion for Power in these communities. Monitor issues found during CI and resolve them promptly. You also will be part of a team that set up the build and test environment for this offering.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies with minimal guidance, should have several projects over several years.

  • Willingness to learn and work with new programming languages.

  • Excited about working in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent related work experience

  • 4+ years experience with containers (docker, podman, runc etc) the container management ecosystem (Kubernetes,)

  • 4+ years Experience with distributed version control systems like Git

  • 2+ years Experience with public and private cloud infrastructures

  • 5+ Experience developing software in a Linux environment using a language like Golang, Node, Python, Java etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
