Oracle Oracle Hospitality - Product Marketing Director in Chicago, Illinois

Development and implementation of business plans, marketing strategy, and forecasts for a product/service or vertical market. Manages a staff of managers.

As a manager in product marketing, you will be responsible for leading the development of company marketing specifications for specific product(s) or product line(s). Manage marketing activities within the context of the overall corporate plan to meet company objectives. Monitor the development of business plans and business results of e-marketing. Manage lifecycles and product positioning in the market place. Identify customer needs, oversee market research, and monitor the market trends/competitive landscape. Implement and monitor advertising campaigns. Act as a technical advisor for specific product(s). Initiate and foster relationships with development, sales, and other groups to develop new products or enhance functionality of existing product(s) or product line(s). Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Practical internet knowledge. Software business management experience. 7 years technical marketing experience. Previous development experience or developer marketing experience desired. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Successful track record in management. BA/BS degree. MBA preferred.

As a Product Marketing Director for Oracle Hospitality, you are responsible for making our products fly-off the shelf, including developing effective marketing strategies, sales and customer facing content and plans to communicate the features and benefits of our products and the Oracle cloud and applications - to the sales teams and customers.

This role is the glue that binds our product strategy to the tactics we need to drive success in sales and marketing and to achieve results. You will be the product evangelist and will play an integral role in organizing product launches.

You know our competitors like the back of your hand: what they do today and what they plan to do in the future. You also know our buyers better than they know themselves, including how they make their buying decisions. You back up strategic insights with Hospitality Market evidence and then use that knowledge to drive the development of positioning and messaging that resonates with buyers and empowers our sales channels to be successful.

You will collaborate with our marketing team to develop innovative programs that drive demand. An attention to detail and eye for quality are critical to your success, along with an ability to grasp and present our product s value proposition in a way that resonates and clearly articulates how we solve our buyers problems.

In addition to the marketing team, you will regularly collaborate with product managers, engineering and cloud experts and of course sales enablement and operations teams; it s a balancing act that requires strong diplomatic skills, including knowing when to push back and when to dive in.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market intelligencebe the expert on our buyers, who are they, how they buy and their key buying criteria. Use market research data to influence product features, pricing and packaging.

  • Understand the competitive landscapebe an expert on our competition and how they are positioned.

  • Collaborate with product management and marketing communications to develop product positioning and messaging that resonate with our target buyer personas and sets our products apart from others in the market to give them a unique selling point. This includes a compelling cloud story and crystal clear journey to cloud message with variations for different customer patterns.

  • Understand and document our buyer s process, including where they get information, and the /who/, /what/, /when/ and /why/ behind the decisions they make. Then drive changes to our sales and marketing processes based on what you learn.

  • Plan the launches of net-new products and releases of existing products/SKUs (from a sales perspective), and drive the cross-functional implementation of the plan. Coordinate go to market activities and create sales enablement tools and content such as playbooks, customer facing positioning presentations, strategy and vision deck for Oracle Hospitality, new SKU enablement material, etc.

  • Understand and support our sales enablement team; train them on the problems we solve for our buyers and users; develop sales tools that facilitate the selling process

  • Speak and present about strategy, cloud story and products to both external and internal audiences.

  • Support the marketing team to develop a marketing plan, including key activities and budgets to support the retention of existing customers and the acquisition of new customers.

  • Assess the effectiveness of the marketing programs that support our products on an ongoing basis, and report back to the business on required changes.

  • Act as one of the primary thought leader for our products, including speaking engagements and written works.

  • Requirements*

  • Product Marketing or Sales Engineering experience with at least 2 years of experience in a market-facing role (e.g. delivering presentations to customers and prospects, conducting competitor analysis and market research).

  • Excellent understanding of the Hospitality industry and Hospitality technology landscape. Opera and/or Simphony knowledge would be advantageous.

  • Collaborative skills: As a product marketing manager you will have to collaborate with multiple teams across the business. This will often include the sales and marketing department, the engineering department, product management, senior executives.

  • Communication skills: The ability to speak and write to a high standard is crucial. You will frequently have to present new products and write engaging copy, telling the story of products, for various marketing channels. Must be a strong public speaker, comfortable in front of large, senior groups, and a solid writer.

  • Research skills: A crucial part of being a product marketing manager is gaining insight into customer needs and experiences. Analysis of data, surveys and customer interviews will be part of this mix and you need to be well acquainted with these techniques.

  • Exceptional ROI-tracking skills, able to prove what is or isn tworking

  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties. Team player skills mandatory.

  • Pragmatic Institute Certified preferred.
