Erosion and Sediment Control Specialist

The Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Specialist is a key role in our QGC Team supporting our Upstream Operations in Chinchilla. Working closely with other members of the team the ESC Specialist will provide technical scopes, field assurance and drives continuous improvement for effective stabilisation and implementation of erosion and sediment controls on QGC sites in accordance with legislative and QGC requirements, in particular, our ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS).
Some of the key deliverables and responsibilities of this role are:
Undertake initial site assessments and determine stability and ESC requirements including soil testing and analysis
Develop scopes of work outlining construction methods, rehabilitation requirements, erosion and sediment control measures, and timing of works
Develop key relationships with supervisors, operators, construction personnel and HSSE advisors.
Understand and apply environmental conditions outlined in environmental authorities, permits and approvals, policies and procedures and management plans to Upstream Well Engineering, Projects, and Operations
Attend kick off and pre-construction meetings to promote awareness of environmental conditions and management measures in line with Scope and consistent with the EMS.
Provide recommendations and advice on environmental solutions for field based reinstatement and rehabilitation, including aspects such as flora and fauna management, pest and weed control, soil management, erosion and sediment control, water quality and use of CSG water, and nuisance complaints
Develop quality assurance documents to ensure scope of work is effectively followed
Review Contractor Site Environmental Management Plans where applicable
Review QGC policies and procedures and drive cost effective, strategic and continuous ESC improvements
Undertake tool box talks and staff awareness training in environmental procedures/plans.
Consistent with the EMS, ensure appropriate documentation and records management processes are maintained for effective tracking of environmental performance
Follow up on incident reporting and corrective action and non-conformance reports
Assist as required in the field to undertake sampling, monitoring and auditing programs and incident investigations
Assist as required in field water quality testing prior to use of water sources for construction and dust suppression
Assist as required in injured wildlife assessment and transport to carers and snake handling/relocation

The candidate we are therefore seeking for this position, will have/be;
Tertiary qualification specifically within the environmental discipline (Environmental engineering, rehabilitation, ESC qualifications / skills)
Experience and technical skills on stabilising and rehabilitating construction sites, specifically sites with dispersive soils
Experience and expertise on erosion and sediment controls (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control)
Experience in managing contracts and contractors.
Ability to develop scopes of work for contractor/ tendering process.
Experience in document writing and quality assurance.
A working knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation, policies, standards and practices (both federal and state legislation) and how they are applied in the workplace
Experience with soil chemistry and analysis
Understanding of and experience in construction and reinstatement processes / earthworks methods, equipment and ground cover choices.
Solid experience on rehabilitation / soil chemistry / erosion and sediment / flora in inland Queensland
Crucial to the success of this role is the ability to work collaboratively and autonomously and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders based in various locations.
