Positions are located in the Clinical Division under Medical Services Branch of Healthcare Facilities of Navajo Area Indian Health Service. Hospitals are located at Chinle, and Kayenta, Arizona, and Crownpoint, Gallup and Shiprock, New Mexico. The Physician (Emergency Medicine) provides specialty medical care in both outpatient and emergency room settings. The Emergency Room (ER)provides specialized trauma and emergency care on a 24-7 days per week at Hospitals. The position reports to the Clinical Director at each facility. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. The degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-additional requirements for GS-13, GS-14 and GS-15.
GS 13: 3 years of graduate training in teh specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training GS 14: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training GS 15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: experience that included a high degree of judgment and leadership in coordinating emergency services; independently planned, organized and carried out assignments during course of patient care; recommended or implemented changes to improve the quality of Emergency Room services and working in compliance with policies, procedures and practices relating to health care delivery, etc.
Each Physician must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license in a state. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subjected to adverse action, up to and including removal from Federal services.
Board Certification Preferred, but not required.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-15 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
