Thermo Fisher Scientific Import & Export Specialist in Cincinnati, Ohio
Work directly with the Shipping and Receiving Department and responsible for PDS outgoing material and product shipments for the Cincinnati PDS facility. Assists with ensuring the appropriate transportation, storage, and handling of PDS material. Coordinates shipment dates and consolidation arrangements of couriers. Manages shipment documentations to fulfill Customs and Excise obligations. Ensures outgoing materials are dispatched in good condition in appropriate storage containers.
Manages shipment of finished goods, materials, dangerous goods, and samples to external testing laboratories and clients.
Establishes and maintains effective shipment activities with other departments, while supporting the organization's production
Coordinates with shipping companies, insurance companies, customs companies, and clients in order to ensure cost-effective shipment processes
Manages and ensures the appropriate recording of necessary documentation, contracts, and online forms
Ensures the consignment is documented, labeled, counted, packed, and temperature controlled in accordance with product requirement
Ensures daily compliance of current customs and security related regulations of imported/exported shipments at contract research organization (CRO). Coordinates the customs and traffic related activities as it relates monitoring and approval of freight and customs charges, preparing data for contract negotiations, obtaining customs related rulings to support the business. Manages all aspects of import and export activities, and serve as the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) administrator for the facility. Ensures all activities are performed in complete compliance with all US customs regulations while providing the best possible service and cost to internal customers. Serves as the primary point of contact with the local Port Director.
Ensures compliance with all U.S. and various global customs regulations for all import and export shipments, including those processed through the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ).
Updates and maintains overall customs compliance procedures to ensure company is utilizing best practices related to entry release of merchandise and has knowledge of all areas of US customs regulations, including Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Section Notes, researches customs binding rulings and export regulations.
Prepares and submits FTZ related customs forms, annual reports and all other supporting documentation to ensure we meet government regulations.
Works directly with US customs agency personnel, the local Port Director and customs brokers on all activities relating to the import and export of goods.
Conducts daily activities including inventory reconciliation, auditing procedures, inventory control processes, verification of all inventory movements, and verification of all files for accuracy as pertaining to FTZ activities.
Stays current with all import and export regulations to provide internal advice and counsel on import and export activities.
Participates in compliance audits, develops and conducts internal training programs for compliance.
Prepares and submits all import and export documentation as well as follow-up coordination with brokers on all imports and exports.
Works with outside counsel/trade services partners to understand and comply with importing requirements worldwide.
Provides functional guidance and support to inbound and outbound shipments. Manages receipt data for customs entry information and inbound parts for customs compliance.
Performs other duties as required.
High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
Six to ten years of experience in customs, importing/exporting industry preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Strong knowledge of customs regulations and procedures. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computer skills. Effective written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work with deadlines. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and be organized.
Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pound pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
