Thermo Fisher Scientific Stationary Engineer / Boiler Operator in Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced operator to help run the central utilities plant at its Cincinnati location. This site has made nearly $6MM in investments in the Central Plant in past two years and is poised for future growth.

New Investment Includes

4 New 1000 Ton Magnetic Bearing Chillers

1 New 1500 SCFM Centrifugal Compressor and Dryer

1 New RO/EDI Water Purification System

Upgrades to existing cooling towers

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for maintaining uninterrupted quality utility services from the Central Power Plant to the Cincinnati Site. This person is responsible for the operation and monitoring of all systems and equipment located in the Central Power Plant that include the following:

  • Steam (Water tube boilers -150 PSI)

  • Compressed air

  • Nitrogen (membrane generators)

  • Softened water (softeners)

  • Purified water (mixed bed deionizer and RO/EDI)

  • Boiler Feed-water Reverse Osmosis

  • Large refrigeration chillers (1000 ton+)

  • pH neutralization system

  • Standby generators

  • Thermal oxidizers

Responsibilities also include daily record keeping, monitoring (including equipment reporting through the Building Automation System (BAS)), testing of system components, chemical treatment of water systems, performing routine preventative maintenance, housekeeping, and following all safety, environmental and GMP procedures required to ensure uninterrupted quality utility services.


Must possess an Ohio 3rd Class Stationary Engineers license or High Pressure Boiler’s License

Desired Education:

High School or equivalent.

The shift that is available is the rotating schedule described below.

The normally scheduled shifts are:

Day shift- works 7am - 3pm on a 6 on 2 off schedule.

Second Shift- works 3pm - 11pm on a 6 on 2 off schedule.

Third shift- works 11pm - 7am on a 6 on 2 off schedule.

Rotating Schedule- works 2 day shifts, 2 second shifts and 2 third shifts

then two days off.

Relief shift-rotates between all four of the above schedules while those

people work their maintenance shift*.

*maintenance shift is when operator works Monday-Friday doing

preventative maintenance, general clean up, tower and chiller

cleaning, etc. This shift is rotated monthly.
