**This position serves as a Physician (Hospitalist) for the Lawton or Claremore Indian Hospital. This position reports to the Clinical Director of the facility.

  • Serves as a Hospitalist physician by performing diagnosis and treatment of patients commensurate within his/her specialty training, education and experience.
  • Documents in the patient electronic health record ensuring appropriate medical records are maintained and updated within 24 hours.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families with multiple health problems in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Responds to medical emergency situations throughout the hospital.
  • Serves as back-up to emergency room physicians as needed.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Applicants must possess and provide documentation of the following basic requirements: A: Degree as a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).] Must submit official or unofficial copy of transcripts showing doctorate degree conferred. If applicable, must supply ECFMG or fifth pathway certificate. AND B: Residency Certification: At least three years of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., 3 years of residency in an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine training program at an institution accredited for such training). Include only those internships, residencies, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Applicant must submit copies of internship, residency, and/or fellowship certificates totaling three years. AND C: Medical License: A current, non-temporary, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: To qualify for the GS-13 grade level: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience or internship and residency. To qualify for the GS-14 grade level: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience or internship and residency. At least one full year of specialized experience practicing as a Hospitalist Physician providing comprehensive inpatient medical care services to patients of all ages.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Education

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.

This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps.
