Verizon Wireless SS7 Engineer and Operations in Colorado Springs, Colorado
What you’ll be doing...
As our Principal Engineer, you will be part of the Verizon Wireless National Network Organization (NNO).
The SS7 network is signaling core is the backbone to all functions on the Wireless Network. All voice calling, SMS and Mobile Authentication is facilitated on this backbone. The SS7 network provides for mobility of our customer's devices and enables functions such as PrePay, Number portability, seamless roaming, caller ID, and many other critical function. Nearly every function in the network relies on the SS7 network and the coordination of these events requires deep and thorough knowledge of the incumbent capabilities and design of our network.
Provide broad technical direction and planning for current signaling network infrastructure.
Generate and maintain planning input data for HQ Network Planning and NNO Planning for short and long term strategy.
Collaborate with various network and business functions to provide design input for signaling network augmentation for products and services.
Provide technical design and implementation leadership for signaling network evolution.
Provide leadership, training and strategic direction for Engineers on the SS7 Team.
Use contemporary and emerging technologies married with sound business acumen to provide leadership in planning, design, and business case formulation.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Electric Engineering, Computer Science or related area or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience supporting commercial, 7x24, highly available data systems.
Even better if you have:
Seven or more years of cellular network experience with MSCs, HLRs, SMSCs, and other SS7 platforms.
Two or more years of experience working with IMS and LTE.
Conversant in DIAMETER, SIP, ISUP, ANSI41, GSMMAP.
Experience with system network engineering and design processes.
Experience with performance measurement and capacity planning.
Expert level understanding of TCPIP networks and related protocols.
Firm understanding of TCP/IP layer 2, 3 and 4 functions as it relates to switches, routers, load balancers and firewalls.
UNIX system administration experience.
Network security experience.
Demonstrated technical and analytical skills.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to represent ideas visually.
Strong organization skills.
Capability of working independently as well as within a team.
Certifications in RedHat, Cisco, VMWare, or related technologies.
Demonstrated active membership in industry organizations such as GSMA, IEEE or standards body.
