Position Summary:

OBL is looking for a Head of Curriculum Innovation and Pedagogy who will apply research, design, development and implementation expertise in the creation and iteration of cutting edge education strategies and techniques specifically targeted to virtual learning. This role will require leveraging innovative curriculum design, learning practices and personalization that is scalable and replicable across a wide variety of diversecontexts. The Head Curriculum Innovation and Pedagogy will lead a dynamic, cross functional and matrix team that includes members from Curriculum Development and Production, and Software Architecture and Engineering to provide leadership and vision for innovation of OBL’s K-12 curriculum and instructional models.

Responsibilities:

  • Use design thinking principles to provide ideation leadership and facilitation of content development to enable breakthrough ideas in the e-learning environment

  • Lead innovation and high-quality online learning design to meet learner, data and business requirements.

  • Lead the innovation of curriculum design and development to drive next generation learning capabilities including social learning, AI, adaptive and personalized learning models

  • Lead the Content Architecture team in the implementation ofProject ALICE (Acquiring Learning in Connected Environments); a multi-year Product Development initiative developing and deploying a new ecosystem of tools used to author, maintain, render, and deliver curriculum content

  • Work collaboratively with the Software Development and Architecture, and Curriculum Development and Production groups to define and refine the curriculum development system’s (ALICE) requirements

  • Lead theheads of Data Science and Assessment,and work collaboratively with the Director of Content Development to design data and assessment models that provide the foundation for improving learner performance and product efficacy

  • Lead the effort to design new pedagogical and curricular strategies that specifically address students who are learning in a fully virtual environment

  • Lead the exploration and implementation of new technologies to include adaptive learning, simulation and gamification or any other strategy that supports and enhances learning in an online environment

  • Develop, evolve, and implement academic, social emotional and other non-academic student success metrics

  • Lead the development of social learning

  • Collaborate and connect with innovators across Pearson divisions to bring best practices to online content development including serving in an active role in Pearon’s Global Content Sharing Initiative

  • Collaborate with the team of curriculum specialists to develop a comprehensive and consistent academic program

  • Maintain an awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in instructional technology that may be adopted as new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies, and practices

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field; Doctorate preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years as a demonstrated innovator in education

  • Minimum of 5 years as a curriculum developer

  • Possess deep knowledge and proven success of types of pedagogical innovation in online learning

  • Possess broad understanding of the virtual learning space and deep understanding of online learning models and curriculum products

  • Possess deep knowledge of and proven success with learning object (LO) development, tagging LOs for sharing and analysis, and learning object repositories

  • Agile/ SAFe experience preferred

Must enjoy a fast-paced challenging work environment that requires significant flexibility, self-direction, and creativity

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office programs)

Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail skills

Ability to effectively meet deadlines

Strong work ethic

Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently
