Pearson’s Online & Blended Learning (OBL) K-12 group provides high-quality, highly accountable online education solutions to schools, school districts and students in grades K-12. Position Summary:

The VP of Enterprise Architecture provides senior technical leadership to a team of architects responsible for strategic technology leadership and design of OBL’s enterprise ecosystems with an emphasis on scalability, security, and performance. This key role is tasked with developing a long term strategy that aligns with OBL’s roadmap and vision as well as understanding and leading the delivery of strategy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute a multi-year software strategy and architectural roadmap in conjunction with the product management and software development leadership team.

  • Define principles that guide technology decisions focused on improving OBL’s platforms and services.

  • Work with business leadership to establish a technology research strategy and roadmap.

  • Responsible for delivering signature-ready, actionable recommendations to business leadership, so they may adjust policies and projects to achieve target business outcomes

  • Advocate the institutionalization of consistent architecture practices across the organization using EA frameworks

  • Ensure that project management or solution delivery life cycle efforts and project architects specifically leverage all aspects of enterprise architecture

  • Conduct research and rapid prototyping opportunities for new solutions and service offerings.

  • Work with Pearson’s Global Architecture group to align on platforms/tools/integrations for the total OBL architecture

  • Mentor and support architects by brainstorming creative solutions, providing soft skills counseling, removing impediments, and escalating technical oversights.

  • Accountable for development of highly complex enterprise wide Data & Analytics platform that requires knowledge across multiple architectural domains, such as Cloud, Edge, etc...

  • Exercise fiscal responsibility in application architecture.

  • Identify training and career development paths for architects.

  • Hire and retain top quality architecture personnel to ensure domain knowledge is sufficient for planning and execution of strategic roadmaps.

General Responsibilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS and back office tools

  • Working knowledge of Google apps

  • At least 15 years’ overall experience, 5 years direct experience in enterprise architecture role

  • At least 10 years’ experience leading and mentoring employees

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to present at all levels of the organization.

  • Depth of experience with SOA frameworks and experience in Cloud architecture

  • Understanding of the life cycle of software development, maintenance, and operations

  • Experience with developing standards and design patterns for cloud-based development including implementing cloud-based analytics platforms like AWS and Azure.

  • Experience working with offshore resources.


  • Experience in an Agile Environment

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure

  • Adherence to financial targets

  • Focus on delivery of working software with a high benchmark for quality

  • Delivering on complex integrated platforms in conjunction with Pearson Global core platforms [OneCRM, TEP, Customer Data Hub, Product data Hub]
