Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Materials Engineer - Technical Specialist - #IN745 in Columbus, Indiana

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Apply highly specialized knowledge of materials science with engineering principles and practices to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing, and quality problems.

  • Work with cross-functional teams on projects that require material selection, failure analysis, material characterization, interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality inspections, material process quality audits, material process development, production process validation and material property data.

  • Initiate evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging material and material processing technology.

  • Utilize extensive experience with advanced chemical and metallurgical lab test technology to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical, mechanical, chemical and micro-structural properties.

  • Provide technical direction on complex Failure Analysis to the project team in order to collect the forensic, manufacturing and service data needed to determine root cause and deliver short/long term countermeasures.

  • Utilize diversified knowledge and experience in characterizing materials/substances based upon results of analysis techniques such as identifying atomic structure, nano-scale compositions, surface morphology, and surface chemistry as relevant to the sub-discipline.

  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection, based on design objectives such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.

  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials and finished products to ensure their quality.

  • Plan and implement laboratory operations to develop material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specifications, and performance standards. Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Positions require aMaster’s degree in Materials Science or Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fieldandtwo years of experience as a Materials, Chemical, or Laboratory Operations Engineer, or related position.

  • Alternatively, the employer will accept aBachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry,or related field and five yearsof experience as a Materials, Chemical, or Laboratory Operations Engineer, or related position.

JOB SITE: Columbus, Indiana

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
