Verizon Lead Project Manager in Columbus, Ohio

What you’ll be doing...

The Project Manager will report to the Project Services Manager and is responsible for the management of assigned projects conforming to PMI standards. The Project Manager can be made responsible or assume responsibility for any type of projects within the Project Office such as Customer oriented, Internal, Transition and Transformation, and small (standard) projects. Due to the nature of Verizon as a global organization, the Project Manager may be required to be available for project related activities outside normal working hours.

The Project Manager has the following key responsibilities:

  • Experience with supporting Stage 6 Global customer(s) involving large scale, complex service delivery projects.

  • Familiar with LAN,WAN, SDWAN, WLAN, IPT, SIP, VoIP solutions.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects / project teams simultaneously.

  • Efficient delivery of projects to the Customer, within agreed timescales and budget.

  • Forming project teams with required resources and ensuring resource availability throughout project lifetime.

  • Initiation of projects through project kick-offs.

  • Setting and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Involving internal departments, as required, in the project to ensure successful delivery.

  • Liaising with the CLIENT Business, CLIENT organizations as required by the scope of the project.

  • Delivery of project work plans including clear deliverables and associated delivery dates.

  • Defining and measuring key project milestones.

  • Defining project risks and accompanying risk management plan.

  • Regular project status reports to the internal manager and customer as required.

  • Management of, or involvement of a manager for Vendors involved in the project.

  • Ensure successful project implementation via Change Management processes and procedures.

  • Delivery of project information required for billing purposes.

  • Adhere to the standard processes and procedures and project management tools as defined within Verizon and relevant to the Customer Project Management Office.

The successful candidate is someone who is adept at formal project management practices and can function effectively in a dynamic and global environment. The candidate must be able to work independently, is an effective problem solver, and can lead and manage their projects and teams in an effective an efficient manner.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.

  • 4 or more years of project management experience.

  • PMI Certification/ Prince2 Practitioner / IPMA certified in Project Management.

  • Good verbal and writing skill.

  • Strong communicator both internally and to the Customer and third parties such as vendors.

  • Experience and understanding of complex, global networks.

  • Good understanding of Internet family of protocols with special emphasis on MPLS/BGP VPNs, BGP, OSPF.

  • Complex network infrastructures (Cisco routing and switching, familiar with level 2 and level 3 implementations).

  • Proven experience with complex WAN, LAN, Wireless LAN, and IPT-Cisco Call Centre Manager infrastructure.

  • Affinity with network protocols as IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL, SMTP,SNMP, DNS and FTP.

  • Experience with firewalls and firewall rules (NAT, Checkpoint, Juniper-Netscreen).

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.

  • PMP Certification.
