Senior Software Engineer (JoinOCI-Edge)

This individual will be a senior member

of the Engineering organization developing and operating critical internal

systems. They will function primarily as a development resource but will also

assist in troubleshooting operational issues as-needed. The ideal candidate

will be self-motivated and possess a wide range of skills and experience, from

strong understanding of the networking stack to building highly fault-tolerant

services. As a senior engineer, this individual should have the ability to

understand business needs and strike a good balance between business goals and

technical implementations.

Major Duties

● Implement

and support Oracle Dyn applications, including tooling and automation

● Analyze

business needs interpreting those to develop technical needs, user stories and

eventually deployable systems

● Evaluate

various implementations to determine compliance with business needs and

external specifications

● Perform

troubleshooting and coordinate problem resolution activities with engineering

and support teams

● Establish

and maintain productive relationships with peer service teams

● Participate

in a 24/7 on-call rotation


● Demonstrated

ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section

● At least 3 year’s

experience with Linux operating systems, such as Ubuntu or FreeBSD

● At least 5

years experience in application development

● Expertise

with a dynamically-typed language, such as Python or Ruby.

● Experience

with configuration management tools like Chef, Ansible, etc.

● Demonstrable

knowledge of distributed system fundamentals: networking,

parallelism/concurrency, high availability, load balancing, and graceful


● Can clearly

explain concepts to technical and non-technical audiences through writing and


● Demonstrated

ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and within groups

● Creative

thinking and critical analysis are essential

Desirable Experience

● Developing

and Deploying IAM services

● Understanding

of frontend frameworks, such as AngularJS

● Architectural,

development, and operational concerns of cross-datacenter applications

● Understanding

of applications such as Nginx, Varnish, Docker etc.

● Knowledge of

Internet protocols and standards, specifically HTTP

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
