The Integration Enterprise Architect (EA) is responsible for providing the expertise, vision, leadership and strategic direction to establish and maintain Xcel Energy’s enterprise integration architecture. The EA will create and promote architecture design patterns and facilitate solutions that leverage enterprise standards. The EA will be responsible to the Chief Architect (CA) and Senior EAs for providing technology direction and leadership to diverse teams of IT and OT business management, technologists, analysts, programmers, and contractors to achieve successful planning and implementation of strategic technology while driving towards a cost efficient integration footprint. Interacts with leaders within the company and industry experts to establish business, IT, and OT integration strategies, reference architecture, standards and governing principles. Keeps current on emerging technologies in order to provide Xcel Energy with opportunities to enhance current and future integration architectures. Works closely with IT and OT teams, outsourced vendors and other service providers to ensure accurate and efficient implementations of new technologies into the environment. Essential skills include ability to influence a variety of business and technology stakeholders and decision-makers, and ability to efficiently create and communicate using digital tools and capabilities.
Planning and Strategy: Develop business, information and technical architectures that are aligned with IT strategies and principles. Perform gap analysis and develop optimized technology road maps to support strategic initiatives considering the organizational and financial impact of enterprise architecture initiatives. Responsible for development and maintenance of corporate I/T technology architecture and technology directions that integrate data and systems and increase safe and controlled access to information and systems across the corporation. Minimize the IT footprint and reduce the intricacy and limit the number of breakage points in the architecture. Ensure management of an IT asset management life cycle process as part of the technology plans to leverage I/T as a key component for driving value throughout the organization.
Architecture Framework: Create and maintain enterprise architecture standards and frameworks which support the Technology strategy within one or more specific disciplines of Enterprise Architecture. Lead and drive efforts to develop, maintain and measure reference architecture, standards, design patterns and related technical documentation to ensure implementation of the strategic technology plan. Provide technical leadership and architectural direction to IT and Business Unit staff concerning business architecture, technology lifecycle management, technology roadmaps and strategies, and management of the technology footprint. Areas of direction include, but are not limited to development of architecture principles, reference architectures, design patterns, and standards.
Architectural Governance: Coordinate, review and approve projects and work efforts to ensure that they are compliant with architectural standards, policies, and guidelines. Iterative refinement and direction of governance activities ensuring compliance with the enterprise architecture. Manage technical governance of technology solutions, architecture principles, reference architecture and standards through a Technical Review Board. Work with technical domain owners to drive consensus and ensure compliance with the enterprise architecture.
Communications and Relationship Building: Engage in significant interaction at senior management levels; able to effectively communicate highly technical information to numerous audiences (e.g., senior management, client community, peers and junior associates); effectively develop relationships with individuals inside and outside of IT. Deliver difficult messages and express disagreement with others with confidence and self-control. Address challenges to technical recommendations and influence others to change their approach and work collectively to implement new / difficult challenges. Gain support from related stakeholders for the technology direction, solutions and champion the migration towards the new technology.
Trend Analysis / Technology Investment: Anticipate business needs and trends and the direction technology must take in order to properly support the business. Consider costs and benefits associated with technology solutions and the implications of maintaining the status quo; perform trade-off analyses. Articulate clearly to customers and IT management in a manner that they understand the investment economics of technologies and/or systems.
Technology Leadership: Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of enterprise architecture technologies through leading, interacting and discussing subject area with industry peers, vendors and consultants. Apply knowledge in the continued development and enhancement of technology plans for Xcel Energy. Seen by others as a “go-to” technical resource and advisor offering meaningful technical solutions; can quickly resolve issues that are complex and uncharted; accountable for coaching / mentoring associates on their technical versatility and problem solving skills; inspiring and mentoring other senior technologists. Provide technical leadership and architectural direction to IT and Business Unit staff concerning technology management, roadmaps and strategies. Promote the enterprise architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results.
Management of Staff: Lead and manage the development of reference architecture (RA), standards and design patterns through the solicitation and management of a matrixed team for each of the technology areas have a stake in the EA products to be developed or revised. Additionally, EAs manage and provide architectural and design direction for other architects, engineers and consultants.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science or technology or related experience including 10 years work experience in designing and integrating new large-scale systems across multiple hardware and software platforms, IT architecture and related functions at a large corporation.
A graduate degree in an I/T related discipline is preferred.
Also prefer 2 recent years of energy company related experience. Must have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge in integration architectures and at least two areas of IT including business process modeling, information architecture, business architecture, technical architecture, architecture technology standards, architecture governance, full systems development life cycle, and enterprise architecture frameworks.
Certifications and publications in these areas of expertise preferred.
Current working knowledge of ITIL and IT Service Management desired.
Strong verbal, written, coordination and presentation communication skills are required.
