The Palliative Care Nurse exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, and research activities . This position is a leading nurse expert in palliative care and is certified as such. In a collaborative manner, the Palliative Care nurse serves as a clinical resource in the areas of palliating patient care, pain and symptom management, coordination of patient/family conferences as relates to palliative care and develops a collaborative approach with physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains and any other team members involved in the patient’s care.
Position Requirements: A. Licensure: RN in the state of Colorado B. Education: BSN preferred; C. Experience: 5 years of hospital nursing experience; oncology/ICU experience preferred
Special Qualifications:Certification in Palliative Care Nursing. Must have the ability to assess information, apply critical thinking processes to determine course of action and relay this information to the interdisciplinary treatment team. Requires excellent interpersonal skills, conflict management and negotiation abilities and strong written and verbal skills. Must be able to prioritize workload and manage both time and stress effectively. This individual will need the ability to diplomatically interact with patients, family members and other professionals and document these interactions in a clinically precise and timely manner.
Supervision Required:The Palliative Care Nurse is expected to perform job duties independently and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
Ages of Patients Served:This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patient and families of all ages and age categories but primarily those of the adult and geriatric patient. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards
