Meet Anatomy, Aetnas first design system.

Fundamental Components:

Anatomy was created to unite Aetna Digital's product, design, and engineering teams around a common visual and brand language with which to work more efficiently and consistently across platforms and applications. Anatomy will provide comprehensive visual styles, UI components, usage guidelines, a11y best practices, and implementation guidance, and allow our teams to focus more on solving users healthcare problems.

However, the small but mighty, cross-functional team creating Anatomy needs your help. Were seeking a seasoned, thoughtful, and savvy interaction designer to bring a methodical and curiously instinctive approach into the mix, and help seamlessly bridge the gap between human and machine on a system level.

What You'll Do:

  • Understand and translate requirements, user needs, and technical capabilities into ideas

  • Creating thoughtful and impactful concept sketches, wireframes, flows, information architecture, prototypes, and UI patterns

  • Recognize and predict use cases and user interaction, including happy path as well as edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs

  • Successfully communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, rationale, and usage guidelines, both verbally and visually

  • Simplify complex problems into elegant visualizations through diagramming, modeling, and/or mapping

  • Measure recently released system features to establish benchmarks and to identify potential areas of improvement

  • Help create a culture that embraces experimentation, so be comfortable taking calculated risks and pushing the envelope

  • Look for creative ideas and inspiration in parallel analogous worlds

  • Stay abreast of emerging UX design patterns



  • Five (5+) years experience in UX, HCI, or interaction design

  • Deep understanding of information design/architecture, gestalt principles, heuristics, and user psychology

  • Strong reading comprehension and a well-reasoned, systematic approach to thought, writing, and design processes

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential to effectively present concepts to the internal system team and the systems adopters

  • Strong work portfolio that demonstrates systematic and creative design thinking

  • A mature understanding of designs relationship to the business

  • Positive, collaborative attitude and good sense of humor

  • Instinctual and insatiable curiosity


  • Previous experience working on a design system team

  • Experience workingwithin an enterprise design organization


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
