Position Summary: Primarily responsible to ensure phlebotomists maintain venipuncture competency and required education. Responsible to train new and existing phlebotomists to perform ordering, venipunctures, bleeding times, workman's comp drug screens, therapeutic phlebotomies, therapeutic drug monitoring, and all other required collections of the laboratory whether being in the Inpatient or Outpatient settings- Same day Surgery, Short-term Outpatient Stay, Emergency department & Radiology. Creates appropriate staff schedules plus ensures that schedules are available in a timely manner. Assists by demonstrating & coaching with difficult collection of specimens (this includes the specialized skills necessary for pediatric collections per Fairview's established collection procedure) , provides support to phlebotomy staff and ensures excellent quality & patient care, to include collection of samples, combines requisitions, interprets handwritten orders as well as those on forms and determines correct tests to order, plus checks for outstanding orders or specimens, to include microbiology and blood bank departments. The Administrative Manager of Phlebotomy also ensures that phlebotomist staff members are capable of answering the laboratory phones and customer questions, send results to appropriate entities and receive specimens into the laboratory via the pneumatic tube system, ensure appropriate Meditech routines are completed for collections and receive supplies as part of inventory control plus tracks all computer equipment maintenance within the lab and outpatient areas into a good working order. Responsible to ensure productivity standards are being met by fluctuating staff members daily schedules, especially during low census times, oversees that staffing is adequate based on volume needs & monitoring turn-around times with emphasis on those for ED. Responsible to monitor the collections of time-sensitive test draws & ensures specimen viability through correct handling. Responsible to possess a thorough understanding of all areas of the laboratory as it pertains to specimen handling and throughput. Oversees the charting or outpatient reports timely and accurately. Develops, enforces policies & maintains manuals relating to phlebotomy or of any other lab areas, as assigned by the Lab Director. Continues to participate (with annual retraining) in the HCA Laboratory Billing and Compliance Plan with the following: Medical necessity guidelines, billing compliance, completing ABNs. Assist the Lab Director with Phlebotomy payroll, generate disciplinary action forms & coaching of staff, be involved with recruitment & retention of staff, participate in the lab recognition process & support all HCA initiatives, ensure safety and compliance plus be involved with college student academic guidelines.

Education: Minimum of 2 year degree in Adminsitration or Phlebotomy. Graduation from an accredited school of phlebotomy preferred and with a national certification (ASCP) preferred., able to maintain

Experience: 5 years of phlebotomist experience preferred. At least 2 years of management/supervisory experience preferred.

Special Qualifications: Must demonstrate a cordial, caring, and professional attitude at all times, easily approachable be able to communicate in clear concise manner, mentor those with keen interest, delagate projects to others with special skills and be an employee advocate to the lab management team. Within 90 days of hire, must possess phlebotomy skills necessary to train phlebotomists who have difficulties with skill or timelines of the procedure. In the event of a resignation, a minimum notice of 2 weeks is required to the supervisor. Week-ends and Holidays will be required as needed as well as flexing of hours to allow for one-on one employee discussion. Week-end call is also required as needed.
