Job Summary

The Architect works as part of an Architectural Design team. The Architect should be a strong team player and should be able to plan, schedule, coordinate and execute the design in terms of small to medium projects. On large complex projects, the Architect should be able to operate well within an extended team. The Architect should be able to operate independently with intermittent oversight by Senior Design Architect.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualizing, designing and planning buildings, structures, townships, residential and commercial developments that are functional, safe, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing;

  • Responsible in conjunction with senior guidance, for the preparation and compilation of design presentations, reports and schedules and obtain relevant statutory approvals;

  • Responsible for preparing and presenting sketches, visual renditions and plans of structures and developments and obtaining relevant statutory approvals;

  • Liaising with clients and construction professionals;

  • Management and supervision of architectural technologists and draughtsmen;

  • Coordinating consultants' and engineers' technical layouts & services;

  • Monitoring construction and ensuring quality and expected standards are maintained on site;

  • Coordinate and develop responses to tender queries, contractor’s queries and review responses;

  • Building contract administration;

  • Writing and presenting specifications and technical reports and proposals, and issuing of payment- and completion certificates;

  • Adapting plans and strategies according to requirements and addressing design challenges that may arise during construction;

  • To be the architectural team leader on small to medium projects by designing and developing project documentation;

  • Function as the architectural lead on small to medium projects and lead the delivery of technical documentation including coordination with all disciplines to insure effective delivery;

  • To be the client facing contact of the team as part of the project management team.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Understanding of the design process and the interfaces between design disciplines present on a project,

  • Support company objectives in terms of quality and client satisfaction,

  • Foster good relationships with clients and stakeholders where required,

  • Understanding AECOM commercial management of projects and systems,

  • Understanding of scope definition and scope interface and the ability to communicate to the team,

  • Proficiency REVIT, and presentation software to enable efficient execution of projects,

  • Detailed understanding of AECOM standards, policies and procedures and ability to transmit the same to others,

  • Full knowledge of Statutory Authorities requirements, knowledge of codes, regulations and submission requirements,

  • Developed knowledge of Sustainable Design principles,

  • Mentor junior staff members and foster skill development across the wider architectural community,

  • Willingness to update knowledge.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (architecture) is essential.

  • Professionally accredited with relevant professional body (SACAP)​
