The Network Engineer III will actively participate in the implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of all network infrastructure, non-AS400 software deployments, hardware and Operating Systems. This resource will also assist in the evaluation and research of network technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of the WAN/LAN infrastructure including responsibility for:

  • Active Directory management for the PCC business

  • IP Subnets, DHCP reservations, SMTP connections

  • Impacts of Group Policy Updates on business user teams

  • Impacts of Security Updates on Servers and business user operating systems

  • Deploy and leverage monitoring tools for the network including and not limited to Solar Winds, Log Management Software, and software that helps move the business to greater efficiency.

  • Maintain relationships with key contacts at all vendors associated with the network maintenance and support including internal Thermo Fisher Scientific IT resources responsible one layer up from the business unit (i.e. Security, Global Networking).

  • Manage Intel Hardware and Software to accomplish the following:

  • Reduce downtime on all systems

  • Ensure Updates to VMWARE are recommended to leadership that reduce risk and improve overall performance

  • Monitor Virtual Machine Operating System health

  • Monitor maintenance contracts on all in supported hardware and software

  • Monitor consistent availability of all VM’s including On Site and Cloud based machines

  • Monitor backups to ensure all data and operating systems are fully recoverable

  • Maintain overall Network Documentation using iConnect 2.0 including:

  • Ensure all passwords for all machines are logged properly using the corporate LastPass Account

  • Ensure iConnect 2.0 is properly updated as the single source of truth for all IT work instructions, contracts, network diagrams, internal short cuts to hardware and software under management

  • Maintain proper documentation on work instructions related to Cisco Unity and Call Manager

  • Ability to support the business as a Level 2 support analyst after Service Now Tickets are assigned by Level 1 support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, technical education preferred, BS preferred

  • Demonstrates self-discipline and motivation in all aspects of job performance

  • Willingness to assist others and follow directions

  • Ability to articulate technical concepts to co-workers and management

  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure team environment, handle multiple tasks and react quickly to networking problems and issues

  • Must adapt to rapidly changing technologies

  • Interest in expanding one’s knowledge in the technology industry

  • Proactively collaborate with all IT and business team members by responding to email, phone calls, texts in a timely fashion

  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely fashion including and not limited to Expense Reporting, Alerts to business for internal MIM, PMD documentation etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Certifications and Cisco Certifications preferred

  • Understands WAN/LAN protocols and topologies

  • Technical experience with VMWARE, cloud technologies and MPLS Infrastructure required.

  • Must be willing to learn AS400 technologies to support user Level 1 calls and know when to escalate the call

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Products
