Position: Senior Software Engineer

Location: Research Triangle Park, Durham, NC

Job Description:

This person will perform software development activities related to existing and new product development. As a Senior Software Engineer you will be directed by the team leader, architect, and/or manager and will liaison with customer technical staff and IBM technical/clinical staff. This position will also be expected to mentor and provide technical guidance to other team members using their knowledge and experience.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform product development in accordance with WHI’s methodology and practices;

  • Perform software module requirement analysis, design, and test design as assigned;

  • Prepare software module specifications, designs, test descriptions and estimates as assigned;

  • Implement software modules and unit tests as assigned and conduct appropriate module testing;

  • Conduct appropriate verification and validation activities as assigned;

  • Detect, report, investigate, and fix product defects as appropriate;

  • Assist with escalated customer support investigations;

  • Participate in the review of product engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, designs, test descriptions, implementations, tests, records, reports, etc);

  • Assist in the preparation and review of product, engineering, and management plans and reports (e.g., program and project plans) as required;

  • Prepare technical reports as required;

  • Under minimal direction, prepare updates to system specifications, designs, test descriptions, hazard analysis, verification and validation test procedures, and related documentation supporting software development to known standards;

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • 5+ years in software requirements and design engineering skills using a well-defined disciplined engineering process or methodology;

  • MS-SQL including the creation of Tables, Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, and database programming.

  • C#.NET, WCF, IIS and Windows Server.

  • Knowledge, skills, training, and experience in software-intensive systems;

  • Database performance by developing a protocol for measurement of results and identification of problem areas.

  • Support database performance by monitoring database performance; evaluating and resolving processing and programming problems; designing database management tools; answering user questions.

  • Work in an Agile development model

  • An undergraduate degree or better in computer science or equivalent discipline or equivalent level of industry related experience

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • 7+ years in software requirements and design engineering skills using a well-defined disciplined engineering process or methodology;

  • Experience in Healthcare Information Systems, Electronic Medical Records, Practice Management, HL7, PACS, DICOM a plus

  • Design pattern experience a plus

  • Java development a plus

  • ASP.NET and MVC Development a plus

  • Professional experience and expertise in web-based technologies, methodologies and architectures, including HTTP, HTML, AJAX, XML, JSON, and Micro Services a plus

  • Experience with SOAP and REST Services a plus

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
