Oracle Senior Data Platform Architect – Oracle Utilities SaaS in Edison, New Jersey

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will specify, design and implement major changes to existing software architecture. Create new architecture for a moderate size product or a portion of a major product. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to ensure consistency, testability and portability across products in general.

Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 or more years of software engineering or related experience.

This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado.

We are seeking an experienced software architect for our data platform architecture in Oracle Utilities cloud with a heavy focus on data streams and API integration. The right candidate will energize the team, foster collaboration across the organization, and lead the drive toward high-caliber, high-performing products in our data centers and at our client sites. Our responsibilities don’t end with design; we advocate our functionality through demonstration, documentation, and curriculum, liaising with third parties as well as our clients in a cycle of continual improvement of our product offerings.

You are seeking to work on a low-latency data platform that is at the heart of cloud processing for a large software footprint. Your attention to detail is renowned, you have deep experience with tech tradeoffs and decision-making, and as a result you are pragmatic in your choices. You are accustomed to the bulkiness of enterprise software for a complex, highly regulated industry, but you have the drive to challenge the enterprise software status quo. You thrive on being hands-on in the software, you look for opportunities to improve the way things work. Your experience working with product management teams means you know how to clarify requirements and work towards consensus and compromise.

About the Team

We’re a team of architects (approximately 15-20 architects) responsible for a large software product footprint. We’re passionate about designing elegant architecture that scales to meet the needs of energy companies and water utilities on a global scale. Together we bring a broad set of skills and capabilities to our group, and we are always working to better integrate our talents in service of more effective solutions.

What You’ll Make Happen:

  • Get up to speed on Oracle Utilities products and cloud architecture

  • Establish relationships with product management, engineering, and other architects.

  • Prototype preferred technical options around data streaming within Oracle Cloud

  • Leadhigh-visibilityarchitecture designs for the Oracle Utilities data platform from concept to delivery including hands-on technical work as needed

  • Drive decisions that result in scalable, resilient, and elegantly simple software

  • Ensure engineers are following established API standards within Oracle Utilities

  • Work with managers of engineering teams to continually improve our agile processes

  • Jumping in and getting your hands dirty to help with client launches and sales demos

  • Define and champion architecture standards and practices with your immediate engineering team and other teams

  • Be an active voice in the architecture across Oracle Utilities to identify synergies and potential gaps

You have a track record of:

  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, API frameworks, integration platforms, and cloud data platforms

  • Deep experience with databases and cloud object storage

  • Experience with distributed cloud systems at an enterprise or global level

  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and data streams such as Kafka

  • Expertise in Java and/or Python

  • Moving between high level architecture vision and low-level technical guidance

  • Working with cloud security best practices

  • Improving processes and standards for others within your organization

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail

  • Explaining and advocating for software features to a broad audience ranging from executive management teams to engineers to clients or business stakeholders
