Verizon Network Field Supervisor in Fairfax, Virginia

What you’ll be doing...

We’re investing in our network to improve the way we live, work, and communicate. Our network transformation will be critical for all our future connectivity businesses including new products such as IoT, 5G, and future smart cities. As part of this network transformation, you will lead a team that will build one network engineered for growth for all lines of business.

We are looking for a strong leader who will drive business initiatives as Verizon continues to transform itself. This is a unique opportunity to join our Business Operations team as we gear up to support the build plan for our OneFiber program.

Reporting to the area manager, you will interface with directors, project managers, vendors, dispatch centers, and field personnel. You will manage a team of field technicians within an assigned geography who are responsible for inside and outside plant activities, CPE installation and project installations (CCR). This team covers installation, repair and maintenance of the long distance and local network equipment and fiber optics in a 7x24 environment. You will also manage safety and training compliance, ensure vehicles are properly maintained, maintain the technician work schedules, track absences and complete timesheet approvals in a timely fashion. This is a fast paced environment with plenty of variety.

You will have active involvement in problem-solving processes and 7x24 availability. You will perform productivity assessments, and proactively evaluate, analyze, and recommend solutions to provide a differentiated service experience to our customers and drive performance improvements. You will also provide transformation leadership in support of organizational strategies and good practices to create efficiencies within the business that scale to support growth.

Utilizing your strong leadership skills, you will guide and motivate a team toward a common goal. You will translate business requirements into practical application partnering with leadership, centers, and field partners to establish and implement objectives that achieve organizational goals in the areas of: cost reduction, driving revenue, workforce management effectiveness, and execution on customer commitments. With your strong understanding of data analytics/metrics management, you will employ strategic and display a willingness to effectively drive changes across the Enterprise, build strong relationships with internal partners to ensure the highest level of success, and lead the team through network transformation.

  • Leading, coaching and providing direction to subordinates in support of all work functions.

  • Motivating and developing technicians.

  • Providing clarification or explanation of changes, goals and other duties.

  • Building strong relationships with internal partners and external partners to ensure the highest level of success across all organizational objectives.

  • Handling daily governance of KPI’s utilizing various reports, GPS data and observations.

  • Performing a variety of administrative tasks including scheduling, reporting and project tracking.

  • Managing performance including: safety, training, quality, productivity and feedback.

  • Fostering an open communication environment.

  • Providing after hours support.

  • Traveling frequently.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Willingness to work extra hours when necessary, including weekends, after hours and on call as required for the needs of the business.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree

  • Strong leadership qualities, and a demonstrated ability to guide and motivate a team toward a common goal

  • Five or more years of supervisory experience in a network, field operations or related environment.

  • Five or more years of experience in administering processes and policies as they relate to: safety, attendance, performance work rules and code of conduct.

  • Five or more years of experience and knowledge of the following: CO or Terminal transport systems, DS1 through OCN, DWDM, ULH, Fiber locating, Fiber splicing, outside plant construction and CPE.

  • Five or more years of technical knowledge, specifically basic power knowledge, fiber optics installation, maintenance, voice and data services.

  • Understanding of basic employment/labor laws.

  • Strategic and critical thinking skills to solve both strategic and tactical challenges on a daily basis with advanced skills to perform complex work.

  • Ability to provide clear and timely responses and feedback.

  • Ability to analyze data and present results to identify root causes, and improvement opportunities to support business strategies.

  • Strong organization skills that focus on attention to details.

  • Proven ability to successfully coach and/or discipline as needed.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Lean Six Sigma methodologies and Project Management processes.

  • DOT certification.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to embrace change.

  • Ability to manage in a high volume, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to analyze problems, develop solutions and make sound decisions.

  • Detail oriented mindset with anability to maintain ahigh level of accuracy.

  • Ability to interact with various levels of management, various departments and with internal and external customers.

  • Initiativewith a strong sense of ownership and involvement, as well as the ability to perform with limited supervision.
