The Merchandising Operations Lead will provide ownership of key initiatives in the field related to Merchandising, Replenishment, Marketing, Collaboration, Training, and Efficiency. Support driving results through direct and indirect means based on the needs of the business. Manage the successful assessment, training and support of Merchandising and Marketing activities across assigned regions, as it pertains to improving efficiency within the regions. This includes driving effectiveness, integration, centralization, process development and training initiatives for the Merchandising organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Vacancy Support – Merchandising Operations Lead is responsible for filling vacancies as an Area VP of Merchandising and Marketing, Area Category Operations Manager, and Area Purchasing Manager. While filling the vacancy, the Merchandising Operations Lead is responsible for full execution of all Key Metrics affecting the role based on the role responsibilities. The Merchandising Operations Lead will be responsible for serving as a member of the Area Senior Staff, and will be required to manage/lead a team of 3 to 30 people. This management/ leadership may include, but is not limited to hiring, coaching, developing, and disciplining of employees. This task will be as needed based on the request of the Region VP of Merchandising and Marketing.

Lead assessments of current regional, area and market level processes as defined in the deployment specifications. Diagnose gaps and make recommendations to effectively close those process gaps. Identifies specific information and undocumented knowledge pertaining to current processes and procedures utilized in merchandising and replenishment operations within assigned facilities, and makes recommendations for process improvement based on those channels of feedback.

Engages Region, Area, and market staff in discussion, identification of concerns, and solutions based action planning activities.

Develop plans to boost efficiency of standardized (non-product) training programs across the enterprise in support of merchandising initiatives. Effectively identify and facilitate changes aimed at increasing merchandising effectiveness.

Establish and maintain effective relationships across the organization (center, regions, areas and markets), driving communication and effective integration of processes and efforts across all levels of the enterprise (relevant to merchandising & replenishment initiatives).

Identify change management training needs aimed at boosting merchandising & replenishment effectiveness; facilitate the creation and delivery of training and information to stakeholders across the organization. Continually assess training programs and improve/adapt to maintain effectiveness.

Serve as subject matter expert, asserting the ability to stand-in as needed in a back-up capacity for Area Category Operations Manager, Area Purchasing Manager and Regional Merchandising & Marketing roles. Advise Area VP’s Merchandising and Marketing on SWAT initiatives.

Develop bi-weekly review discussions with employees within the responsible region to review opportunities for improvements or fine tuning of processes.

Continuously assess Area/ market ranking and execution for responsible Region, and review opportunities for improvement on an ongoing basis.

Conduct discussions with Area/ market Leadership related to observations, action plans, and open tasks needing to be completed. Effectively serve as an extension of the Region/ Area Staff. Provide written weekly recaps of all activities conducted during the week, as well as provide a verbal recap meeting with Area/ market leadership prior to closing each visit. Identify items that are executed as well as action items needing to be executed to improve process/ results. Provide a documented copy to the Efficiency Team Manager and RVP Merchandising and Marketing weekly for review and discussion.

Engage Region/ Area/ market teams to proactively identify and develop recommendation for process improvement, aimed at increasing effectiveness of training, integration and operations within Merchandising & Replenishment. Collaboratively design, implement and facilitate training across these areas.

Leverage expertise to support projects related to new acquisitions/consolidations, as it relates to merchandising effectiveness, including due diligence and business integration. Support analysis for assortment related to business moves between Regions/ Areas/ Markets as directed by the RVP of Merchandising and Marketing for the impacted Region, or Efficiency Team Manager.

Contribute and participate in national training sessions that are virtual and in person. This includes conferences, video conferences, and in person events.

Serve as subject matter expert for current best practices and operating systems such as: Prism, Merlin, CASSIS, Cookbook, SOA-SODS, CMOD, HPSM (VSC cases) etc.

Work with and coordinate with the Replenishment Service Center on field initiatives to ensure aligned performance within RSC purchased markets. Serve as Liaison between the RSC and Field when additional support is needed. Not limited to, but including: IRP (Inventory Swap) Requests, Buyer Support Asks, Reporting Support Asks, Analysis Asks, and problem resolution support discussions.

Maintain a level of execution in all tools related to Replenishment, Merchandising and Marketing, as well as remain current with all new enhancements and procedures.

Regularly attend Area/ Market Inventory Meetings (Shrink, E&O, KVI, Marketing, etc) related to Replenishment, Merchandising and Marketing activities. Provide observations, feedback, and contribute support for solutions where applicable.

Attend Merchandising and Marketing Calls, meetings at the markets, Area, and Regional levels. Participate in sharing information regarding up and coming activities or support needs.

Manage expense accounts for weekly travel, and adhere to company travel and expense policy.

Overnight travel up to 80%. Standard 4 days onsite work with in an Area/ Market, with a 5th day of home office follow up and reporting.

Education/Training: Four year degree or related field experience required. Leadership Training or Change Management Training Preferred.

Related Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of leadership experience required, with 4 years of category management/replenishment experience preferred. Experience within foodservice or food manufacturing companies highly desired. Must possess at least 3 years of project management experience. Prior experience in process improvement/deployment and facilitation of training programs highly desired. Prior experience coordinating work within multiple markets preferred. Prior exposure to travel policies and regulations preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate will have strong project management and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work in a team setting, drive team results and support change management within the organization. Must be able to provide fact-based recommendations across various levels of management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of motivation, the ability to prioritize and self-direct, strong business acumen and sound interpersonal skills. Strong verbal, written and presentation skills required. Candidate must possess strong analytical skills, and be able to transfer analysis into multi-level end user discussions. Proficiency required in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Outlook.
