Role comprised of engineering support with primary tasks of 3D modeling, 2D documentation, and documentation change control. Secondary tasks may include test fixture design, product specification management, and image rendering. Work is performed as part of a cross-functional team interfacing with engineering, manufacturing, test lab, prototyping shop, and occasionally marketing. File management occurs through PDM/PLM system.
Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Creating new or modifying existing 3D models based on verbal inputs or drawing markups
Application of ANSI Y14.5 and drawing best practices in the creation or modification of part and assembly 2D drawings
Creation or modification of multilevel assembly drawings and creation of auto bill of material (BOM)
Modification of 2D documentation as part of engineering change notification (EN) work flow
Application of basic knowledge of plastic part design, molding techniques, and assembly methods as part of engineering modeling support.
Working closely with engineering team and confidence to ask questions
Managing own time based on defined deliverables and requested timing for completion
Responsible for following Water Pik quality system procedures and assisting with procedure refinement when required.
Attention to detail during 3D model, drawing, and assembly during creation, refinement, and review of documentation.
Occasional workstream management of lab or shop for prototype creation, assembly, or test.
Operating Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Solidworks advanced part, assembly, and 2D drawing creation and modification –including surface modeling
Microsoft Office tools – primarily Outlook, Excel, and Power Point
Knowledge of drafting standards and best practices for 2D drawing creation and modification
Knowledge of multilevel assembly drawings and auto bill of material (BOM) creation and modification
Experience using product data management (PDM) systems
Basic knowledge of plastic part design, molding techniques, and assembly methods.
Good verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 Standards, including GD&T
Basic design knowledge of assembly fixtures
Verification of experience using Solidworks modeling, assembly, and drawing tools
Photorealistic rendering experience desirable
Light assembly experience beneficial to support fixture assembly
Education and Experience
Two year technical or associates degree with mechanical or electro-mechanical design or drafting focus preferable.
Successful completion of Solidworks Essentials Part Modeling course preferred
Certified Solidworks Advanced Part Modeling and Advanced Assembly course preferred
- 2-4 years design experience using Solidworks.
