Role Summary

The Category & Shopper Insights Manager main responsibility will be to develop insights based actionable retail strategies and selling content to grow Waterpik’s categories and brands. The position will work closely with:

  • Field Sales and Customer Marketing to understand the retail and competitive landscape, champion for insights and solutions within the organization, and assist in executing strategies with the retailer.

  • Brand Marketing and Trade Marketing to develop insights based strategies against category and brand Distribution, Shelving, Merchandising, and Pricing.

  • Market Research to provide the sales position to influence current and future research projects to develop actionable insights for field sales and category management.

  • Broker and Data Vendors to develop analysis, reporting, and insights tools and spreadsheets for the organization to measure the state of the business and deliver insights to field sales and category management.

The role reports internally to the Waterpik Sales Operations Department.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Champion the development of actionable/sellable insights leveraging available information; including syndicated data, panel data, loyalty card data, and market research.

  • Be the voice of sales internally with the development of market research project to ensure that, in addition to developing actionable insights for the brand marketing organization, they provide the sales insights that help activate with the retailer.

  • Lead the development of Category and Brand Distribution, Shelving, Merchandising, and Pricing strategies, and develop insights based selling materials to support sell-in with the customer.

  • Lead the delivery of Channel specific opportunities with our categories and brand.

  • Lead the communication of actionable insights with the organization through sales materials, reporting, and executive summary.

  • Supports Customer Sales calls by serving as the category expert, delivering insights and recommendations to support customer, category, and brand initiatives.

  • Develop sales platforms, back-up spreadsheets and charts, and other tools to provide a consistent message and methodology to Field Sales and Category Management to sell in category and brand initiatives.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred

  • 8+ years of experience in the CPG industry required.

  • 4+ years in a Category Management, with experience in Advisory role

  • 4+ years in Customer facing experience, preferably in Direct Selling role

  • Experience working internally in Trade Marketing or Shopper Insights a plus

  • Nielsen and/or IRI syndicated data experience is required.

  • Nielsen Advanced Analytical capabilities are required.

  • Loyalty card experience is also a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • A strong knowledge of Category Management practices and tools

  • Experience analyzing multiple large data sets including sales and panel data

  • Understanding of using analysis and insights to solve business objectives

  • Experience integrating consumer and shopper insights into sales presentations

  • Understanding of different Channel/Customer strategies

  • Negotiate and influence across multiple functions and levels within organization

  • Taking complex information and simplifying for use in the market

  • A drive for results
