Summary: ThePharmacistshall serve patients by preparing medications to patients at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center and/or its satellite pharmacies located on Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)

  • Provide direct inpatient and outpatient pharmacy care for the pediatric adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Interpret prescriptions, compute dosages, weigh and measure drugs and mixes and compound drugs and chemicals.

  • Resolve problems related to the clinical, chemical and therapeutic applications of drugs, including biopharmaceutical effectiveness, utilization of new therapeutic agents and special formula and dosage requirements.

  • Interpret prescriptions and dispenses products prescribed which require accuracy in dosage and identification of therapeutic incompatibilities to avoid serious injury or death to the patient.

  • As part of the dispensing process, instruct discharged patients in the proper use, actions, precaution and storage of their medications, and documents patient health records.

  • Reviews patient health records for therapeutic appropriateness, including diagnosis/treatment, patient allergy and medication compatibility with other current medication (drug interaction screening).

  • Monitor provider performance through government information systems and records, patient records, customer service information, contractor reports, and time sheets.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy that is acceptable to the Surgeon General of the Army (Reference AR 40-68).

  • Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in a State or territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia

  • One plus years of post-graduate experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy

  • Have and maintain current certification in basic cardiac life support and advanced cardiac life support (BCLS & ACLS). This must be obtained through the American Heart Association and/or Red Cross approved training program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent Communication skills in English

  • Ability to use computer and different office and military software (with training)

  • Ability to maintain pharmacy CME’s

  • Ability to reason and make quantifiable quality decisions based on pharmaceutical knowledge

  • Knowledge of current regulatory, licensing and legislative practices in pharmacy

  • Shall have knowledge of professional trends and development of equipment and devices that are applicable to providing services.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Privacy Act, Computer security of patient’s information, ethical procedures and federal, local and state governance
