- The Pharmacy Technician shall perform a full range of pharmacy technician duties and procedures at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center and satellite pharmacies located on Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret prescriptions, obtain proper medication in the proper strength and dosage form.
Determine proper amounts and counts, pours or measures the medications.
Affix proper labels and record required data on Pharmacy's copy of prescription order
Dispense medication in ambulatory care or discharge situations (after a final check by Pharmacist)
Independently fill first dose medications, missing doses and unit dose carts for inpatient areas without routine secondary review
Document items dispensed in the unit dose computer package
Prepare IV admixtures
Maintain pre-determined level so automatic replenishment/ward stock medications for patient care areas
Assist with inventory management
Provide patient education on pharmacy topics such as requesting refills, drug information sheets and relaying questions to the Pharmacist.
Receive, review, prepares, and fills physician orders.
Perform pharmacy checks on sterile orders, bulk drug orders, and replenishing of medical carts
Assist’s in conducting medication storage area inspections.
Assures safe handling procedures for hazardous drugs.
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Pharmacy Technician certification and have graduated Pharmacy Tech School from a program accredited in the United States, acceptable to the Surgeon General of the Army or a Department of Defense (DOD) pharmacy technician-training program.
One (1) plus years of experience, within the past three years, working as a Pharmacy Technician
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possesses excellent communicative skills, both verbal and written.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common journals.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity in dealing with sensitive issues, exhibiting professionalism at all times.
Capability of building relationships with all levels of providers, maintain working knowledge of current laws and regulations.
Ability to meet and adhere to stringent deadlines.
Ability to assimilate and implement new information quickly and effectively.
