Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a SH&E Advisor to join our team at IOL Kearl. This is a temporary position supporting the shutdown.

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and administering safety, health, environmental protection, and substance abuse prevention programs affecting employee and public safety, occupational health, fire protection and prevention, and equipment and property protection. Serves as a resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive prevention program for accidents and illnesses.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company environmental, safety, and health regulations.

  • Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.

  • Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.

  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and procedures manuals.

  • Establishes and maintains licenses and permits as required.

  • Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.

  • May function as a generalist responsible for multiple ES&H facets on a small project or as a specialist on larger projects.

  • Plans and administers training programs in accident and fire prevention and protection, and other employee safety procedures.

  • Conducts comprehensive safety audits and inspections and recommends actions for the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Investigates injuries, conditions and incidents that do, or could, involve actual or potential liability.

  • Maintains adequate records of pertinent data and compiles or initiates the compilation of the required reports on individual job occupational injury and illness experience.

  • Plans and coordinates safety and health classes for craft and supervisory employees.

  • Under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.

  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area. Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.

  • Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazard.

  • Conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.

  • Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.

  • May provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or demonstrated equivalent.

  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems).

  • First Aid – Standard Level.

  • H2s Alive is a must.

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of HSSE principles, practice and legislation.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standards and best practices.

  • Team player.

  • Must be able to understand and explain relevant sections within the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Code and Regulations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with highly sensitive information in an effective manner.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
