Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, located on Florida's Emerald Coast, seeks a Equipment Technician to join our Executive Team!

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision cleans, sterilizes, and assembles surgical instruments and equipment. Ensures that all floors and patient care departments have appropriate patient care equipment, instrument trays and other needed supplies available at all times. Responds to special requests from surgery and all patient care floors in a timely and customer service oriented manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and equipment using detergents and disinfecting solutions. Wraps, seals and accurately labels items that are to be sterilized. 1. 1. Sterilizes instruments, equipment, linen and related supplies using sterilizers according to manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Prepares surgical sets and instruments according to prescribed procedures ensuring that all instrumentation is correct and accurate. 3. Ensures that all instrument cards are kept up to date and accurate. 4. Clean and process contaminated equipment and instruments using high level disinfection according to regulatory requirements and departmental policies 5. Stores sterilized and prepared supplies and equipment in designated areas or returns to user departments. 6. Informs bio-med of equipment no longer service able or other problems that arise. 7. Frequent rounding throughout the facility to collect used equipment and distribute clean equipment as necessary. 8. Ensures equipment has all necessary parts to function properly. 9. Maintains Crash Carts, Procedure Carts, Urology Carts, RT boxes and Latex free boxes. 10. Follows manufacturer instructions for cleaning different types of patient care equipment. 11. Inform Central Sterile Supervisor of equipment deficiencies and needs. 12. Demonstrates Customer Service behaviors. 13. Regular, punctual and dependable attendance. 14. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: * Surgical Technologist program graduate preferred


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: * Certification in Sterile Processing preferred

*EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: * * Previous SPD experience preferred * Previous surgical technician experience preferred


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: * Reads and writes Basic English; able to follow verbal and written instructions * Knowledge of surgical instruments, tray set-ups, sterilization techniques and basic SPD practices * Ability to operate sterilizers and related equipment safely and efficiently; ability to stand and walk for long periods of time * Knowledge of body substance isolation * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Perioperative Services personnel, other nursing and hospital staff * Willing to work on rotating shifts
