The Operations Research and Advanced Analytics group is responsible for finding solutions to some of the many challenging problems facing the railroad.
Our group leverages cutting-edge technologies in areas such optimization, simulation, machine learning, deep learning, image recognition, and cognitive computing to tackle these problems and add significant value to our business.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interfacing with internal customers to understand the business and identify opportunities for improvement using data analytics.
Interfacing with BNSF Technology Services personnel to understand existing data structures and IT processes.
Extracting and cleaning large volumes of data to derive insights that can be used for process improvements.
Identifying solution techniques and implementing them independently, with external vendors, through academic alliances, or with BNSF Technology Services teams.
Working with end-users to validate and enhance the insights from analysis.
Identifying and initiating new projects.
Communicating status and findings to senior management and multiple teams.
Developing data analytics models to solve business problems.
Keeping current with research and techniques in the field of data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

A Ph.D. degree in Statistics/Computer Science/Applied Math/related field or a Masters with at least 2-3 years of data analytics experience. Ph.D. is preferred.
Very strong programming skills and expertise with languages such as R, Python, Julia, or SAS
Experience with an object-oriented programming language (such as Java, C++, or C#) is a plus.
Experience with statistical, machine learning, deep learning, and data visualization packages/frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, ggplot, Theano, Tensorflow, Caffe, MxNet, PyTorch
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to identify underlying problems and appropriate techniques for solving them.
Ability to manipulate and extract information from very large, complex data sets.
Practical experience applying quantitative statistical techniques to solve real-world problems.
