Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant III performs detailed accounting functions, financial analysis, and provides various general accounting services for the financial operations of the organization. Reconcile accounts, prepare budgets, maintain budget to actual reports and support Controller with related accounting duties.

*Additional duties: * * Assists with monthly financial cycle performing account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, variance analysis, and financial statement preparation. Performs accounting under general supervision. * Responsible for various healthplan processes including capitation revenue, expense, fee for service claims expense, membership and IBNR. Responsible to monitor receipt, reconciliation, and analysis of above processes per each healthplan contract. * Prepares budget to actual variance reports and analyzes variances for each company and department. * Produce standard and ad-hoc reporting to analyze trends for the statement of operations and the balance sheet. * Participate in the preparation of audit schedules and prepare other required backup for annual and regulatory audits. * Identify and implement process improvements with emphasis on streamlining processes, budget load and cash management. * Filing and maintenance of financial and corporate documents in compliance with legal requirements. * Provide a high level of customer service within finance and to other business partners in conjunction with strong written and verbal communication skills. * Perform other accounting and finance related projects as needed.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: * Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles. * Must have ability to operate financial software such as Sage100, Microsoft Excel, MS Office Suite, Adobe, or other programs in an integrated computer environment. * Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills utilizing utmost discretion with sensitive and confidential information. * Must have ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with minimal guidance or supervision, including the ability to make decisions about applications of policies and procedures to work, organize time and set priorities to meet established deadlines and to shift priorities and workload frequently to accommodate new and/or urgent tasks. * Must have ability to demonstrate and maintain a professional demeanor during interaction with a wide variety of personalities in demanding situations. * Must have ability to demonstrate and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, physicians and administration, and work effectively as a team. Education: * Bachelor Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, Accounting is preferred. * CPA is a plus. *Experience: * * At least 2 years’ experience in accounting role with increasing responsibilities and demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction. * Experience with Excel and Access is highly desired.
